The Mets offense is anemic right now. Back-to-back home runs by Alonso and Jeff McNeil accounted for their only runs here despite forcing Zack Wheeler from the game after just five innings. They’ve scored just three runs over their last three games and are mired in a seven-game losing streak. That’s no fault of Alonso though, who’s near the top of the league with a .951 OPS.

Tidwell actually matched opposing starter Zack Wheeler for the first few frames of this one. He threw a few fastballs that exploded out of his hand at the top of the zone and found a genuine feel for his cutter in the middle innings. Then, he lost his command a bit in the fourth inning and was replaced with just 74 pitches. Reliever José Castillo let one of his inherited runners score in the following at-bat. Tidwell has major league caliber stuff and this Mets rotation is currently in shambles, so he could stick for the time being. If he makes another start in regular rest, it will come next week at home against the Braves.

The 33-year-old southpaw scattered two hits on the night and didn’t walk a batter. Manaea got stretched out to 62 pitches in this one, throwing 45 of those for strikes. He may only require one additional rehab start before he’s ready to rejoin an injury-riddled Mets’ rotation.

Baty missed each of the team’s last three games due to a groin injury. He’ll start at the hot corner and bat eighth against Phillies’ ace right-hander Zack Wheeler on Friday evening in Philadelphia. Baty returns to a .219/.267/.419 slash line with eight homers, 24 RBI and three stolen bases in his first 173 plate appearances.

It’s never an encouraging development. Fantasy managers should prepare for the possibility that Burger winds up requiring a trip to the injured list. He dealt with an intercostal strain strain last year with the Marlins and also missed time with an oblique strain back in 2022. There should be some clarity on his status at some point this weekend.

The 29-year-old slugger clearly grabbed at his side a couple of times after swings during his final at-bat before being pulled from the game. Expect that he’ll head for further evaluation and the Rangers should have an update on his status shortly.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 35-year-old slugger, though Freeman has been playing through a minor quad injury. Max Muncy is also taking a seat with tough southpaw MacKenzie Gore on the hill for the Nationals. Enrique Hernandez will cover first base for Freeman while Miguel Rojas will start at the hot corner and bat ninth for the Dodgers.
