Burger smoked a solo homer off Bailey Ober; one of four homers that Ober allowed and one of six that the Rangers hit overall. The 29-year-old infielder also singled in two runs to give Texas a 10-1 lead. After an atrocious start to his season, Burger is starting to see some results to improve his slash to .225/.255/.421 with 10 homers and 28 RBI.

Bochy elaborated, “It’s just a little sore. We don’t think it’s serious or anything. He could play tomorrow. We’ll see. But more likely, he’ll get a day off to see if we can get that calmed down.” It sounds like unless Carter wakes up feeling significantly worse on Saturday that he’s not going to be heading for any additional testing and should be able to return to action before the weekend is through.

It looks to be just a routine day off for the 25-year-old first baseman who has slashed an impressive .310/.344/.655 with three homers and seven RBI in seven games since returning from the injured list. Spencer Steer will start in his place at first base and will bat sixth for the Reds against Jack Flaherty and the Tigers on Saturday.

Tellez got the Mariners on the board with a solo homer off Gavin Williams in the fourth inning. It’s the 11th roundtripper of the season for the veteran first baseman, and his double was just his fifth. Tellez certainly has the raw power to hit the ball over the fence, but it’s hard to trust him as a one-tool player playing in a home park that suppresses that tool.
