It’ll be Pavin Smith taking over at the cold corner with Naylor on the bench for the third consecutive game due to neck spasms. The Diamondbacks aren’t in a position to take any chances with one of their key offensive cogs, so Naylor will get some extra time off to rest and recover until the lingering issue subsides. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

Suárez gave the D-backs some cushion with a solo shot in the eighth inning to extend Arizona’s lead to 4-2. The 33-year-old bopper now has 26 homers on the season, and he’s up to 69 RBI on the season. Suárez is the subject of trade rumors, and it’s important to note that his power can play at any park. Having a chance to drive in runs for a contending team — assuming the Diamondbacks aren’t by the end of next month — wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

Gurriel doubled the Diamondbacks’ lead to 2-0 with a solo homer off Logan Webb. He’s now up to 11 on the season, and three of those roundtrippers came in the month of June. Gurriel’s slash of .250/.296/.414 isn’t awe-inspiring, but it’s important to note that slash .181/.204/.343 at the end of April.

Miller got the final out in the eighth to clean up a jam, and then breezed through the ninth to pick up his 10th save of the season. It’s a nice rebound from his struggles against the Marlins on Saturday, and it lowers his ERA to a very solid 2.10. Assuming he’s not dealt at the deadline, it’s probably safe to say that Miller is going to remain the closer for the D-backs for the foreseeable future.

The double failed to produce any of the runs batted in; he had an RBI groundout in the fifth and then a two-run single an inning later. The single would have been gloved by Jazz Chisholm Jr. at third if it was just a mere regular hard-hit ball, but Guerrero smoked the grounder at 115.7 mph.

Pittsburgh has won four consecutive games by at least seven runs following Monday’s latest one-sided blowout. Horwitz was the primary catalyst in this one, kicking off the scoring with a first-inning solo shot — his second round-tripper of the season — against Cardinals starter Erick Fedde. He also tacked on a two-run double in the fifth inning as part of a six-run explosion for the Pirates red-hot offense.

Burger wound up on the injured list back in late June with a left oblique strain and shouldn’t require more than a couple rehab contests to get back up to speed. He’ll take over as the Rangers’ primary first baseman once he’s ready to return.
