This didn’t look good at all. Muncy was down for several minutes, and had to be helped off the field by a trainer, after Michael A. Taylor slid head-first into his left leg while attempting to steal third base during the sixth inning of Wednesday’s game at Dodger Stadium. The 34-year-old third baseman has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the past few weeks with nine homers over his last 30 games. An extended absence would be a significant hit to Los Angeles’ lineup and certainly shake up their plans heading towards the trade deadline. There should be an update on his status following the game.

It’s the 10th homer of the season for Betts, but the first time that he’s gone deep since June 8; a lengthy spell for a player of his quality. The 32-year-old scuffled for the majority of the last month as seen in a .633 OPS, but everyone is aware of how good Betts remains and what he’s capable of. It’s still nice to get a reminder from a player who is slashing a disappointing .246/.321/.383 over his first 79 games.

May took a shutout into the eighth, but Brooks Baldwin hit a two-run homer off him with no outs to turn a dominant start into one that was still pretty darn good. The 27-year-old allowed only four hits throughout the contest and walked one while pounding the strike zone as seen in 62-of-86 pitches landing. This was a nice bounceback from the clunker against Kansas City last weekend, and a reminder that May has exceptional talent. He’ll face the Brewers on Wednesday and look to build off this outing.

Freeman doubled in Shohei Ohtani in the first, and then doubled home Ohtani and Mookie Betts in the third. The 35-year-old slugger is now up to 47 RBI, and he isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Suárez got Arizona on the board with a solo homer off Robbie Ray in the fourth inning. Former Mariner on former Mariner crime. The 33-year-old continues to pile up the roundtrippers, as he’s up to 27 on the season with a slugging percentage of .561. The question is what team Suárez is playing for at the end of the month.

On a night where both starters and both team’s bullpens were brilliant, the Cubs finally broke through and put a run up in the home half of the 10th inning. Michael Busch started it with a ground out to shortstop that advanced Nico Hoerner to third base. Shaw then followed by smacking a 1-0 cutter deep enough into center field to bring home the game’s only run. He finished the night 0-for-3 and is hitting just .218/.299/.309 with two homers, 14 RBI and 10 stolen bases in what has been a disappointing rookie campaign for the 23-year-old third baseman.

The 30-year-old infielder opted out of his minor league deal with the Diamondbacks a few days ago in search of greener pastures. He has appeared in 18 games at the big league level this season, slashing a dreadful .042/.179/.042 with zero homers, one RBI and a 4/4 K/BB ratio in 28 plate appearances between the Cubs and Angels. He’ll add infield depth for the Bombers.
