The 30-year-old infielder opted out of his minor league deal with the Diamondbacks a few days ago in search of greener pastures. He has appeared in 18 games at the big league level this season, slashing a dreadful .042/.179/.042 with zero homers, one RBI and a 4/4 K/BB ratio in 28 plate appearances between the Cubs and Angels. He’ll add infield depth for the Bombers.

The 28-year-old outfielder sat the previous two contests after exiting Monday’s game with tightness in his left hamstring. He’s back in his familiar spot at the top of the Yankees’ lineup and will man center field for the Bombers against Chris Bassitt and the Blue Jays.

The 25-year-old backstop had missed each of the team’s previous four games due to artery damage in his left index finger that had been giving him an intermittent cold sensation and discoloration. He’s behind the dish and batting eighth against Chris Bassitt and company on Thursday evening in Toronto.

The 24-year-old has gotten off to a strong start at Triple-A, going 6-for-16 with three home runs and three RBI. He also has seven strikeouts in four games and remains a major swing-and-miss risk after posting an 18.5 percent swinging strike rate at Double-A as a 24-year-old. With no obvious spot in the outfield, you wonder if the Yankees would use this hot streak by Jones to try and move him at the deadline for an infield bat that could help the Yankees this season.

With Muncy potentially needing a trip to the injured list, the Dodgers have placed Esteury Ruiz on the taxi list and Ruiz is currently en route to Los Angeles from Triple-A Oklahoma City. It seems likely that Muncy will be placed on the 10-day injured list and be out through the All-Star break, but more information should be available before the start of the weekend.

Dave Roberts said the team was “optimistic” after initial testing, which is good news. Torn ACLs tend to be easy to diagnose, and the Dodgers should already know whether or not his intact. Either way, Muncy will have an MRI on Thursday and is surely IL bound after putting himself in a really bad spot with Michael A. Taylor sliding headfirst into third base. Hyeseong Kim and Enrique Hernández will likely pick up his at-bats.

This didn’t look good at all. Muncy was down for several minutes, and had to be helped off the field by a trainer, after Michael A. Taylor slid head-first into his left leg while attempting to steal third base during the sixth inning of Wednesday’s game at Dodger Stadium. The 34-year-old third baseman has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the past few weeks with nine homers over his last 30 games. An extended absence would be a significant hit to Los Angeles’ lineup and certainly shake up their plans heading towards the trade deadline. There should be an update on his status following the game.
