McLean has strung together back-to-back double-digit strikeout performances, piling up 20 strikeouts over 11 innings during that span. The 23-year-old righty has been one of the fastest-rising pitching prospects in the fantasy landscape this season with a stellar 2.17 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 95/38 K/BB ratio across 87 innings (16 appearances, 14 starts) between Triple-A Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton. There’s a chance he gets a look later this season with the Mets, but their rotation mix remains extremely crowded.

Núñez will undergo his second career Tommy John surgery after hitting the shelf last week with a right elbow sprain. Given the timing of the procedure, the hard-throwing 29-year-old could wind up missing the entire 2026 season.

The home run was No. 19 on the season for Lindor. The 31-year-old shortstop hit a three-run home run off Taylor Clarke in the ninth inning to put the Mets up 7-3. Lindor also walked and ended up scoring the tying run in the eighth inning. He’s hitting .263 with an .800 OPS and 54 RBI on the year.

The home run was No. 22 on the season for Soto. He crushed a solo home run off Taylor Clarke in the ninth inning. Soto was notably left out of this month’s All-Star game festivities despite rebounding in a major way after a slow start this year. He’s hitting .265 with a .910 OPS and 54 RBI this season.

Gorman got the start today even though the Cardinals were facing a left-handed opener, and he actually hit homer off said opener, Aaron Bummer. He’s batting .182/.288/.386 in 52 plate appearances against lefties. That’s not a disaster, but the real problem is that he’s still only at .230/.316/.414 against righties; he needs to be better with the platoon advantage to justify his spot, especially since he’s not helping defensively.

Gorman’s three-run homer off Logan Allen in the first was the only scoring in the game through six innings. He later walked and scored a second run in the eighth. The homer was his second of the year against a left-hander. He’s 6-for-36 (.167) against them overall, but then he’s been in the lineup against a southpaw only eight times.

Gorman did his damage in the fourth inning, crushing a 2-1 fastball from Jameson Taillon for a 432-foot (106.5 mph EV) game-tying solo shot. He also singled twice in the ballgame. Hopefully this is just the type of game that he needs to get his bat going as he’s slashing an anemic .226/.322/.418 on the season with six homers and 21 RBI in his 171 plate appearances.
