Scott was summoned in the ninth to close out the game with a one-run lead. He induced a pop out, then struck out the final two batters to convert his 19th save of the season to go with a 3.77 ERA across 43 innings.

Sheehan followed Shohei Ohtani on Saturday in bulk relief against the Giants. After three scoreless innings from Ohtani, Sheehan took over and kept the Giants off the board into the eighth. He’d leave with two runners on and one out. One inherited runner would come in to score. Sheehan struck out three. The 25-year-old right-hander picks up his first win over the season and holds a 2.03 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and a 13/4 K/BB ratio across 13 1/3 innings of work.

Ohtani struck out the side on 12 pitches in the first inning, hitting 100 mph on the fastball. He walked a batter in the second and gave up a hit in the third, but held the Giants scoreless over his three innings of work, reaching 36 pitches before he was relieved by Emmet Sheehan in the fourth inning. The 31-year-old two-way star has allowed just one run with a 10/2 K/BB ratio across nine innings on the mound.

Not great. Nootbaar has been battling through an intercostal/ribs issue for the past few weeks. The 27-year-old outfielder, who finished Saturday’s contest 0-for-2 at the plate, will presumably undergo further evaluation and imaging to determine the severity of the issue. It’s possible he’ll wind up requiring a trip to the injured list. There should be an update on his status ahead of Sunday’s first-half finale.

Happ has been shifted to the lower third of Cubs manager Craig Counsell’s lineup card after taking a seat during Friday’s showdown with lefty Carlos Rodón on the hill. It’s notable that Nico Hoerner is leading off against another lefty in Max Fried. Happ has been ice-cold at the dish in recent weeks, batting .119 (7-for-59) with one homer and 17 strikeouts over his last 15 games. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s back in the leadoff spot for Sunday’s first-half finale when righty Will Warren takes the ball for New York.

It was a breakout game for Langford, who hit a two-run home run off Ryan Gusto in the seventh inning. It was home run No. 15 for him on the season. The 23-year-old outfielder hasn’t had the breakout season many pegged for him preseason, but once again showed glimpses of that promise with four hits, a home run and a stolen base. Langford is hitting .246 with a .767 OPS and 38 RBI on the year.
