Even with the Guardians facing a right-handed pitcher, Jones will head to the bench with Angel Martinez playing center field and Lane Thomas shifting over to right field. Jones’ swing decisions and contact metrics look good, but he’s hitting just .238/.340/.357 in 18 games in June with one home run and one steal. He can be left on the wire in most leagues.

All three runs scored in a third inning that opened with a soft flyball single and featured two HBPs, three Kyle Manzardo errors and a wild pitch. Outside of that inning, Bibee allowed just one hit and no walks. Bibee fell to 1-6 over his last nine starts, even though he has a 3.49 ERA and a 54/10 K/BB over that span. He’s set to face the Cubs next.

And that’s why he usually DHs. All three errors came in the third. First, he mishandled a sac bunt attempt, allowing the batter to reach. He then got a double-error after dropping a pickoff attempt at first and making a wild throw home that Bo Naylor didn’t even know was coming. Manzardo finished 1-for-3 at the plate, leaving him 6-for-17 with a homer over his last five games. He’ll almost surely DH tomorrow against Sonny Gray and the Cardinals.

Santana had a terrific final two weeks of May, but that’s really the only thing keeping his stat line afloat. He’s come in at .169/.220/.260 with an unusually poor 20/5 K/BB ratio in 82 plate appearances this month. He had a 37/30 K/BB in 220 plate appearances over the first two months.

With Brice Turang struggling, Frelick was elevated to the leadoff spot tonight, even though Frelick himself was hitting just .206/.270/.294 in 40 plate appearances this month. Frelick came through nicely, though, busting things open in what turned into a five-run fifth inning for the Brewers. Frelick is batting .292/.355/.394 on the season, and he’s a better option in mixed leagues while hitting in the leadoff spot.

Frelick cranked a 357-foot (103.8 mph EV) solo shot off of Hunter Greene in the fourth inning, increasing the Brewers’ early lead to 2-0. That would wind up being the extent of their offense in the ballgame though. It was also Frelick’s lone hit in four at-bats. On the season, the 25-year-old outfielder is now hitting .295/.357/.410 with four homers, 21 RBI and 11 stolen bases.
