It’s a notable development since the decision should open up an avenue to regular at-bats for rookie Hyeseong Kim at second base.

Matthews went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on Friday in his major-league debut. The 23-year-old shortstop was Houston’s first-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft and does offer some power/speed combo potential in deeper mixed leagues. He’s going to face an adjustment period as he acclimates to everyday life in the big leagues, but he’s going to get some runway with Jeremy Peña (rib) on the shelf in addition to injuries to Luis Guillorme (hamstring) and Brendan Rodgers (oblique).
