The 30-year-old first baseman had started each of the team’s previous 17 games, so getting him a breather seems like a good idea. France has hit .264/.326/.366 with just five homers and 38 RBI through his first 291 plate appearances on the season. Kody Clemens will start in his place at first base and will bat seventh for the Twins against Brewers’ rookie right-hander Jacob Misiorowski on Friday night at Target Field.

Clemens hit one of four homers for the Twins on the day with a two-run shot off Nick Martinez. The 29-year-old has swatted seven homers on the season, and he’s slugging a solid .496 for his trouble. Unfortunately, that slugging mark has come with a .219 average, but hey, dingers.

Jeffers doubled in a pair off a wholly ineffective Nick Martinez, and then whalloped a two-run shot off Taylor Rogers that traveled an estimated 448 feet. He’s now homered five times in 2024 with a respectable slash of .255/.352/.400 over 199 at-bats. You can do worse, you can do better.

Buxton hit his first homer to leadoff the game off Nick Martinez, and the 31-year-old took Martinez deep again an inning later. He’s up to 15 homers in 2025, and he’s gone deep in three consecutive contests. When Buxton is healthy, there are few players who match the talent. The question is not if he can keep this up, but if he can be on the field enough to do so. It’s a lot of fun to watch him right now, regardless.

It’s the third time in the team’s past six ballgames that the 25-year-old slugger has found himself riding the pine. Spencer Steer will once again function as the team’s first baseman and will bat fifth against Cardinals’ right-hander Andre Pallante on Friday evening in St. Louis.

The Mariners could have just sent Dominic Canzone down to make room for the returning Luke Raley, but they’ve chosen instead to move on from Tellez, who was hitting .208/.249/.434 with 11 homers in 185 plate appearances. In truth, it seems like the right call to us. Tellez has just an 88 OPS+ since the start of 2023, and while Canzone isn’t very good in right, the defense is probably still better with him in the outfield and Raley at first than with Raley in right and Tellez at first.

That’s a sweep for Atlanta. Olson’s bases-loaded double broke the game open in the sixth. He’s batting .321/.451/.607 with three homers and 17 RBI in 71 plate appearances during the month of June, and his current .850 OPS is his highest mark since the second game of the season.
