The Mariners could have just sent Dominic Canzone down to make room for the returning Luke Raley, but they’ve chosen instead to move on from Tellez, who was hitting .208/.249/.434 with 11 homers in 185 plate appearances. In truth, it seems like the right call to us. Tellez has just an 88 OPS+ since the start of 2023, and while Canzone isn’t very good in right, the defense is probably still better with him in the outfield and Raley at first than with Raley in right and Tellez at first.

Just filling up the box score. In Raleigh’s fine first full season in the bigs, he finished with 27 homers, 46 runs scored and 63 RBI in 119 games. After today, he has 29 homers, 51 runs scored and 63 RBI in 73 games this season. Oh, and he’s 9-for-11 stealing bases.

Kirby gave up homers to Ian Happ and Reese McGuire and left down 4-2 before the offense picked him up. His velocity and spin rates were down a bit today. It wasn’t enough to be immediately worrisome, but given that Kirby has missed time with shoulder inflammation, it’s worth keeping an eye on. He’s slated to face the Twins on Wednesday.

This is what the Mariners were envisioning when they offered Garver a two-year, $24 million contract to serve as a DH and a backup to Cal Raleigh; the duo combined for four homers today. They now have 32 homers between them this season! Alas, 29 of those do belong to Raleigh, as Garver has slipped into a platoon role against lefties while batting .216/.321/.319. Garver’s second homer today was the 100th of his career.

The Mets offense is anemic right now. Back-to-back home runs by Alonso and Jeff McNeil accounted for their only runs here despite forcing Zack Wheeler from the game after just five innings. They’ve scored just three runs over their last three games and are mired in a seven-game losing streak. That’s no fault of Alonso though, who’s near the top of the league with a .951 OPS.

The 29-year-old slugger clearly grabbed at his side a couple of times after swings during his final at-bat before being pulled from the game. Expect that he’ll head for further evaluation and the Rangers should have an update on his status shortly.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 35-year-old slugger, though Freeman has been playing through a minor quad injury. Max Muncy is also taking a seat with tough southpaw MacKenzie Gore on the hill for the Nationals. Enrique Hernandez will cover first base for Freeman while Miguel Rojas will start at the hot corner and bat ninth for the Dodgers.
