It’s been a trying few months for Cobb, who threw a bullpen session on Tuesday, as he continues to try to work his way back from issues in both hips. Hinch added that Cobb is still symptomatic and that his body is simply failing him right now. The 37-year-old veteran starter will be racing the clock to make it to Detroit before the end of the regular season. We’ve reached the point where he can’t really afford any additional setbacks.

The Tigers clawed back from an early 2-0 deficit in this one with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings — the second of which was on an RBI single by Keith. Then with two outs in the seventh inning, after Zach McKinstry had walked and swiped a base, the 23-year-old slugger swatted a 1-0 changeup from Edwin Uceta for a 394-foot (101.2 mph EV) game-changing two-run blast. Keith finished the night 2-for-3 plus a walk and is now slashing .269/.350/.450 with eight homers and 30 RBI on the season.

Polanco has been dealing with left knee soreness and wasn’t even available to start at DH for three games at the end of June, but he must be feeling better now. This frees up Cal Raleigh to DH tonight. Usual second baseman Cole Young is out of the lineup for the first time since the aforementioned June 22 game.

It’s nice to see some offensive life from Polanco, as he’s been about as hot and cold as any player in the sport this year. He blistered a homer off Seth Lugo to make it 1-0 Mariners in the fourth in his first three-hit game since April 27. Polanco certainly has offensive upside, but you have to take a lot of bitter with the better based on the last year and a half.

Short receives the call to replace an injured Luis Guillorme (hamstring) on Houston’s bench ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Rockies at Coors Field. The 30-year-old infielder bounced around last year, getting into 42 games between the Mets, Red Sox and Braves.
