It was easily Paddack’s best effort in three starts, but it didn’t prevent him from falling to 0-2 with a 9.49 ERA. Even with Pablo López on the IL, Paddack is hanging on to a rotation spot by a thread. It doesn’t help that the Twins are 4-11 overall and seemingly in need of some sort of shakeup. If that fails to come, Paddack should start against the Braves next weekend.

As the lone righty sandwiched in between four lefties, Torkelson got to face the newly recalled Kody Funderburk in the sixth inning today and homered off him. It was his fourth long ball in 62 plate appearances this season. He’s definitely not going to keep on hitting .314 — this is a guy with a .236 average in 133 career Triple-A games — but the nice power numbers seem likely to stick around.

As much as the Twins are struggling at the moment, the blunder will likely be remembered. After Miranda’s single, Christian Vázquez hit an easy grounder to first that Spencer Torkelson handled and threw to second on. Miranda should have been retired easily, except that Colt Keith was in front of the bag and failed to find it with his back foot. The umpire correctly called Miranda safe, but Miranda assumed he was out and started to return to the dugout, allowing Keith to tag him. It probably didn’t decide the outcome in a 4-0 loss, but it was a bad look from a player hitting just .167/.167/.250 in 36 plate appearances. Miranda, who has started only one of the last four games, is a candidate to be sent down when Brooks Lee returns.

Freeman went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts on Friday in his return to Los Angeles’ lineup following a nearly two-week absence recovering from a right ankle sprain. It’s an encouraging sign for the Dodgers, and fantasy managers, that the veteran first baseman is feeling well enough physically to play back-to-back contests right out of the gate.

Neto is batting .313 (10-for-32) with three homers and one steal through 10 games on his minor league rehab assignment as he completes his rehabilitation from last year’s shoulder surgery. The 24-year-old continues to make steady progress from a defensive standpoint, gradually ramping up his workload at shortstop, and doesn’t appear too far off from making his season debut at some point in mid-to-late April.

Siri remained on the ground for several minutes before limping off the field. He’ll presumably head for precautionary X-rays to rule out any fractures. There should be an update on his status shortly. His absence would be problematic for New York since he’s been one of their primary center field options along with Tyrone Taylor.

Astros manager Joe Espada divulged to reporters that Rodgers has been dealing with the issue for the past few days, but was able to field ground balls prior to Saturday’s contest. It’ll be Jose Altuve covering the keystone on Saturday evening with Rodgers missing his second straight contest. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

Stephenson is working his way back from an oblique strain that he suffered during the late stages of spring training and remains a couple weeks away from returning to Cincinnati’s lineup. He’s making steady progress and it’s possible he’s ready to make his season debut before the end of April.

Scherzer has continued flat-ground throwing, but remains without a definitive timetable to progress to throwing off a mound again. The 40-year-old righty has been dealing with an ongoing thumb issue since spring training and it sounds like it’s going to be awhile before he’s an option for Toronto again.

Thomas will sit out his fourth consecutive contest on Saturday as he continues to deal with a right wrist contusion when he was hit by a pitch earlier this week. It’s unclear whether he’ll be available off the bench at any point this weekend. It’ll be Angel Martinez patrolling center field in his absence.

Mariot bolsters Seattle’s pitching depth at Triple-A Tacoma as extra long relief depth. The 36-year-old righty last appeared in the majors for the Reds back in 2023 when he made one relief appearance. He’s merely organizational fodder at this stage of his career.

No one grabbed Hahn after allowing one unearned run in four innings over two appearances for the Mariners. That was the 35-year-old’s first major league action since 2021. He can opt for free agency, but he might as well stay put.

He’s playing right, as Lawrence Butler has this one off. Rooker ceased playing the outfield last year because of an elbow problem that required offseason surgery. Now that he’s recovered, it sounded like he’d be an option in a corner at least a couple of times per week this year. He did play left in three games this spring, but this is the first time he’s played the outfield during the regular season. This will, of course, lead to speculation about a Nick Kurtz callup, but the A’s are going to need Rooker to play the outfield to play pretty regularly for that to work out. It’s unclear right now if that’s a possibility.

He’s batting ninth versus the Angels. With Jose Altuve playing second base, the Astros have Cam Smith and Dezenzo in the same lineup for the first time this season. Dezenzo’s only previous three starts were among the four games that Smith hasn’t started.

This doesn’t bode well. It’s the first time all year the Astros have faced a lefty, and it’s surprising not to see Rogers in there, given that he’s a lifetime .296/.357/.482 hitter against southpaws (.253/.300/.378 versus right-handers). That’s Coors-aided, of course, but if you’re going to start him nine times in 13 games against righties, it’d make particular sense to have him in there versus a lefty.

Anderson has been better than expected defensively, but there’s been little sign of an offensive renaissance here. The good news is that the Angels should have Zach Neto back in 7-10 days, and with Kyren Paris establishing himself at second, Anderson figures to become a true bench guy later this month. Nicky Lopez is probably going to find himself out of work at that time.

It’s good that Marte is playing after spring his first three games on the bench. It seems odd to have Encarnacion-Strand on the bench against a lefty, but he actually has hit righties better to date in his major league career, even if it’s probably a fluke. Encarnacion-Strand is in a 4-for-41 slump after going 4-for-8 in his first two games of the season. Of course, the entire Reds team is hitting .203 right now. Their only healthy players with .700 OPSs this season are their two catchers: Jose Trevino (.773) and Austin Wynns (.879 in 12 PA).

Stroman’s stuff remains in decline, and it’s probably not due to the knee. He’ll get some time off and then the Yankees will figure out whether it’s worth trying to mix him back in or not. This means both Carlos Carrasco and Will Warren figure to remain in the rotation following Clarke Schmidt’s return next week.

No rehab assignment for Tinoco, who landed on the IL with a back strain after pitching a scoreless inning on Opening Day. He struggled this spring with his velocity down some, but if he performs better now, he could become part of the closing mix in Miami.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand said the deal had the potential to be worth about $75 million if all of the options were exercised. Crow-Armstrong entered this season two days shy of having a full year of service time, which wasn’t an accident on the Cubs’ part. Assuming he remains in the majors from here, he’ll be a Super Two player after 2026. He’ll be eligible for free agency for the first time at age 29 after the 2030 season.

Abbott, 25, will be making the start Saturday against the Pirates on Saturday after missing the beginning of the 2025 season recovering from his shoulder operation in 2024. The southpaw offers some fantasy upside, and is worth a look as a streamer against a not-so-great Pittsburgh lineup.
