Rodriguez suffered a lacerated right index finger on April 14. Now that he is out of his splint, he “is playing catch and doing a slightly modified swing.” Once he can progress to taking full swings, we’ll have a better sense of the timeline for his return.

Keller matched his season high with six strikeouts today, but there was no support to be had from the Pirates lineup. He has dropped four straight decisions since beating the Marlins on March 28, and the Pirates have not scored more than four runs in any of the eight games he’s started this season. He’ll face the Mets next time out.

Valdez had a nice first three weeks for the Pirates, but he’s cooled off considerably, leaving him at .209/.294/.363 overall. While that’s still a little better than the Pirates’ .219/.300/.325 line as a team, it probably ensures that he’ll be sent down once Spencer Horwitz is activated from the injured list.

With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.

It seems like a routine day off for Seager with a day game after a night game. Josh Smith will start at shortstop with Joc Pederson at first base and Dustin Harris at designated hitter.

Sweeney also drew a walk, so it was a five-reach game for the 25-year-old shortstop without getting out. The former first-round pick was able to double twice while also drawing a pair of singles on top of the free pass. The 25-year-old has picked up four hits in back-to-back games, and Sweeney’s slash has improved from .206/.292/.304 to .261/.344/.396 in the process.
