    Injury

Matt Wallner was removed from Tuesday’s contest against the Mets with left hamstring tightness.

Wallner will presumably undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury and whether he’ll require a trip to the injured list. The 27-year-old power-hitting corner outfielder suffered the injury during the opening frame of Tuesday’s showdown while legging out an infield single. There should be some clarity on his status prior to Wednesday afternoon’s series finale.

    Injury

Brenton Doyle told reporters Tuesday that his left quad is feeling better and won’t require a trip to the injured list.

Doyle remains out of the lineup on Tuesday night for the fifth consecutive contest, but Rockies manager Bud Black indicated that he could potentially return for Wednesday’s series finale at Dodger Stadium. It’s an extremely encouraging update considering there was a real possibility earlier this week that the 26-year-old power/speed combo outfielder was going to need some extra time off to put the lingering issue to bed.

    Injury

Tony Gonsolin (back) was charged with three runs over four innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Gonsolin threw 66 pitches (43 strikes) in his latest tune-up and should be ready to return to Los Angeles’ pitching mix next week. The 30-year-old righty opened the regular season on the shelf after suffering a back injury while lifting weights during spring training.

    Injury

Matt Wallner made an early exit from Tuesday’s game against the Mets with an apparent leg injury.

Wallner was left hobbling after beating out an infield single in the opening frame. It’s didn’t look great. There should be an update on his status shortly after he undergoes further evaluation and testing to determine the severity of the issue.

    Bobby Miller

Bobby Miller will start on Wednesday against the Rockies.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts made it official that Miller will make his season debut on Wednesday night in Los Angeles with a tasty matchup against a free-falling Colorado lineup. It’s an excellent spot for streaming purposes, especially if Miller looks like he did in the early stages of spring training before he was struck by a line-drive that derailed his ramp-up process. He’s at least worthy of a speculative pickup in deeper mixed leagues, even if it’s just a one-time spot start.

Brenton Doyle (quad) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Dodgers.

The key development for fantasy managers is that Doyle hasn’t been placed on the injured list as he continues to battle a lingering left quad issue. The 26-year-old power/speed combo outfielder remains day-to-day for now. It’s unclear whether he’ll be ready to return for Wednesday’s series finale at Dodger Stadium.

Michael Toglia is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Dodgers.

Toglia’s streak of 106 consecutive starts at first base is over. The 26-year-old all-or-nothing slugger has gotten off to a brutal start at the dish, hitting .167 (10-for-60) with zero homers and one steal through 16 games. He’s struck out in a staggering 46 percent of his 63 plate appearances so far. It’ll be Kyle Farmer at first base on Tuesday night.

Carson Kelly (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Padres.

Seiya Suzuki (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Padres.

Suzuki will sit out his third straight contest on Tuesday evening as he continues to nurse a lingering right wrist issue. It’ll be Justin Turner drawing another start at DH in his absence. There’s been no indication that Suzuki is in jeopardy of landing on the injured list, but fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status.

Cubs activated INF/OF Vidal Bruján from the 10-day injured list.

Bruján’s speed and defensive versatility make him a strong complementary role player at this stage of his career. The 27-year-old missed the first couple weeks of the regular season recovering from a right elbow sprain.

    Daniel Palencia

Cubs recalled RHP Daniel Palencia from Triple-A Iowa.

Palencia has struck out seven batters over four innings this season at the Triple-A level. The 25-year-old hurler figures to pitch in middle relief initially, but could work his way into some high-leverage spots. He’ll join Chicago’s relief mix ahead of Tuesday night’s showdown against the Padres.

Cubs recalled LHP Luke Little from Triple-A Iowa.

Little gets the call to bolster Chicago’s bullpen with Eli Morgan (elbow) landing on the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s contest against the Padres.

Cubs placed RHP Eli Morgan on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow impingement.

Morgan heads to the injured list after leaving Monday’s relief appearance against the Padres with a trainer. It’s a substantial hit to Chicago’s relief depth since the 28-year-old righty was expected to be one of their main high-leverage options bridging the gap to closer Ryan Pressly.

Cubs optioned 3B Matt Shaw to Triple-A Iowa.

It’s a shocking development that the Cubs are essentially pulling the plug on Shaw as their starting third baseman this season after just 18 games. The 23-year-old top prospect has gotten off to a frigid start at the plate, hitting .172 (10-for-58) with one homer and 18 strikeouts in 68 plate appearances. There are a plethora of reasons to be optimistic regarding his long-term future as a potential five-category fantasy contributor, but he’s going to head back to Triple-A for a much-needed reset.

Cubs optioned RHP Nate Pearson to Triple-A Iowa.

Pearson heads back to the minors after allowing 10 runs on 13 hits with a 5/7 K/BB ratio across 8 2/3 innings (eight appearances). The hard-throwing 28-year-old former top prospect will attempt to right the ship back in the minors.

Pirates recalled RHP Chase Shugart from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pirates placed C/1B Endy Rodríguez on the 10-day injured list with a right index finger laceration.

Mariners re-signed RHP Jesse Hahn to a minor league contract.

He’s back. Hahn made a pair of scoreless relief appearances earlier this month before being jettisoned from Seattle’s 40-man roster. The 35-year-old journeyman righty returns to the fold as emergency relief depth at Triple-A Tacoma.

Teoscar Hernández (illness) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Rockies.

The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya reports Hernández was feeling well enough to be at the ballpark on Tuesday, but he’s going to get an additional day off to rest and recover. It’ll be Andy Pages in right field for the second straight night. There’s a chance he’s ready to return for Wednesday night’s series finale.

Brock Stewart (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Low-A Fort Myers.

Stewart is still a couple weeks away from returning to Minnesota’s high-leverage mix, but it’s a great sign that he’s ready to kick off a rehab assignment. The 33-year-old righty has been out since spring training recovering from a left hamstring strain.

Jake Burger is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Angels with an illness.

Josh Smith is also out of the lineup nursing a thumb contusion. Burger takes a seat with Ezequiel Duran taking over at the cold corner in his absence. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. The 29-year-old slugger has gotten off to an ice-cold start at the dish this season, batting .151 (8-for-53) with two homers and seven RBI through 15 games.

O’Hoppe told reporters he’s feeling better ahead of Tuesday’s showdown against the Rangers, but he’s going to get an extra day off to rest and recover. Fantasy managers should anticipate him being ready for Wednesday’s contest. It’ll be veteran Travis d’Arnaud handling the catching duties in his place.

Griffin Canning has been scratched from Wednesday’s start against the Twins due to illness.

No word yet on Griffin’s potential replacement. Mets top pitching prospects Brandon Sproat, Blade Tidwell and Nolan McLean all pitched within the past few days in the upper minors, which eliminates them as potential emergency stopgap options. It’ll likely wind up being a bullpen game for the Mets unless they want to have David Peterson take the ball on short rest, which doesn’t seem ideal. Stay tuned.

Keider Montero will make a spot start on Wednesday against the Brewers.

Everyone else is healthy in Detroit’s rotation. Montero will come up to take the ball for Wednesday’s series finale in Milwaukee to build in an extra rest for the other starters. It’ll be Reese Olson taking the ball on Thursday against the Royals on an extra day of rest.

Jack Leiter (blister) will face hitters later this week in a live batting practice session.

Leiter will make a minor league rehab start or jump back into Texas’ starting rotation mix following his next throwing session. The 24-year-old hasn’t experienced any blister-related issues during his injured list stint, which is a positive development. It sounds like there’s a decent chance he’s back later next week.

Brendan Rodgers (hip) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Cardinals.

Rodgers is absent from Houston’s lineup card for the fifth straight game due to an ongoing left hip issue. There’s been no indication that he’s headed to the injured list, but it can’t be ruled out. It’ll be Mauricio Dubón at the keystone on Tuesday evening for the fourth time in the last five contests.

Drake Baldwin is at catcher and batting sixth on Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

It’s his first start behind the plate since last Friday. Baldwin’s playing time has been dramatically reduced with starting backstop Sean Murphy, who has been red-hot since returning, back handling the catching duties. The 24-year-old top prospect might not get enough at-bats to make a significant impact from a fantasy standpoint, but the fact that he’s staying in the majors is a reflection of his immense talent. If he gets a full-time opportunity, he’ll be one of the more productive catchers in fantasy, but he doesn’t need to be rostered outside of two-catcher formats right now.

The Seattle Times’ Adam Jude reports Emerson Hancock is likely to start this weekend against the Blue Jays.

It’s not quite official yet, but multiple Seattle beat reporters are confirming that Hancock is likely to take the ball this weekend versus Toronto. The 25-year-old was obliterated for six runs and recorded only two outs back on March 31 in his season debut, which earned him a lightning-quick demotion to Triple-A Tacoma. He’s not a recommended streaming option for fantasy purposes.
