Nimmo will miss his second consecutive contest as he continues to deal with flu-like symptoms. It’s possible he’ll be available off the bench, if needed, for a late-game situation. It’ll be veteran Jeff McNeil in left field while the Mets give him some extra time to rest and recover. The incredible part here is that he went 4-for-6 with two homers and nine RBI during Monday’s series opener while battling illness.

Bernardino will be away from Boston for at least a day, with a chance to miss a couple more while taking care of something more important than the sport of baseball. The Red Sox activated Lucas Giolito off the injured list in the corresponding transaction.

Giolito will finally make his Red Sox debut after missing all of 2024 while recovering from Tommy John surgery an suffering a hamstring issue before the start of the 2025 season. The 30-year-old right-hander has the stuff to be an effective option, but fantasy managers may want to take a wait and see approach before adding him to the roster.

Rodriguez, 28, will get the nod and go a couple of innings — at most — before giving way to Eric Lauer. It’s an obvious point that will be repeated anyway, but an opener doesn’t offer any sort of fantasy significance with zero chance of a win and no opportunity to pick up innings.

Winn’s homer off Brady Singer accounted for the game’s only run until the ninth, when Victor Scott II, Lars Nootbaar and Winn hit consecutive homers off Alexis Díaz. The homers were Winn’s second and third of the year. Winn was batting second for the first time this season today. That’s typically been Willson Contreras’s spot, but Contreras was dropped to fifth in spite of his improved production in recent weeks (he came into the day with a .359 average in his previous 10 games). The move up the lineup definitely makes Winn worth grabbing in mixed leagues in which he’s available.

Mikolas allowed three hits, walked none and struck out four in a second straight shutout performance; he’s lowered his ERA from 7.64 to 4.66 over the last week. We’d still typically recommend staying far away in mixed leagues, but Mikolas does get the Pirates and Nationals next week, making him a somewhat intriguing streaming option.

Singer’s second-best performance to date produced his first loss for the Reds, as he had been 4-0 with a 3.62 ERA. The Cardinals managed only a homer and a single against him today, lowering his batting-average against this season to .198. He’ll face the Braves in Atlanta next time out.

Díaz probably didn’t cost the Reds a win in the first game, but he made the nightcap a little more difficult, since the Cardinals were able to save Ryan Helsley rather than pitch him with a 1-0 lead. Díaz seems destined to head to Triple-A at some point here. He’s given up eight runs with a 3/5 K/BB ratio in six innings since returning from the injured list.

McLain has 17 strikeouts and four hits in his last nine games, and his average is down to .154. His power is all of the way back after shoulder surgery, and that’s more important for the long run than his early strikeout troubles. Still, it’d be nice to see him put some more balls into play.

Waddell is up to make a spot appearance Wednesday against the Diamondbacks with Huascar Brazoban serving as the opener. The 30-year-old left-hander will likely head back to Syracuse after, and he isn’t a recommended option for the start against Arizona for those looking for a streamer.

Lawrence has been the victim of the DFA several times in his career, and a few of them in 2025. He was just claimed off waivers from the Mariners, and the 37-year-old will hit the wire again. If he goes unclaimed, he can report to Triple-A or elect free agency.

Lauer is up and the expectation is he’ll throw multiple innings during Wednesday’s battle against the Red Sox. The 29-year-old takes the roster spot of Casey Lawrence, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding transaction.

Woodruff, 32, gave up just three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. The right-hander continues to make steady progress in his journey to make his first MLB start in two years, but it’s worth pointing out that he dealt with fatigue after his previous outing with Triple-A Nashville. How he bounces back from this outing will help determine the next step.

Lauer will probably be used as a multi-inning option for Wednesday’s battle against Boston, but also could get a traditional start. The 29-year-old will need to be added to the 40-man roster after making five starts with Buffalo and procuring a 4.50 ERA and 21/6 K/BB ratio during that timeframe. Lauer has had success at the highest level, but not enough recently to suggest this is a good fantasy option.

Gonsolin is off the injured list and will make his first start since 2023 after recovering from Tommy John surgery and also a back injury he dealt with this spring. The 30-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance in his short career, and the Miami lineup isn’t exactly loaded with stars. He’s certainly worth adding to a roster for Wednesday’s game and beyond.

It will be the first time that McCullers has taken the mound in an MLB game since the World Series in 2022. He missed two seasons while recovering from a flexor tendon surgery. The 31-year-old will get a soft landing against the White Sox, but there’s obvious risk in a hurler who has had this much time off even with rehab starts. It’s fun to see McCullers back on the mound after such a lengthy absence, and since it’s Chicago on the other side it’s probably worth taking a chance.

Carter has reached base safely in all 17 games at Triple-A this season to go along with five stolen bases. He’s also swatted two home runs and has a 1.027 OPS over his last 10 games. The batting average leaves a little to be desired, and it’s possible he’s chasing too much out of the zone, but there’s a lot to like about what he’s doing at Triple-A right now.

Burleson has only 83 plate appearances on the season but a decent .286/.337/.325 slash line. The power has not been there for him this season, and he doesn’t have a single barrel on the year, but the rest of his profile looks similar to last year. He may be being too passive in the strike zone, but the bigger issue is that the Cardinals don’t feel comfortable with him in the field. He’s playing first base today with Willson Contreras at DH since Brendan Donovan is shifting to the outfield and Nolan Gorman is at second base with Jordan Walker on the bench. This could become more of a regular occurrence if Walker continues to struggle, but, for now, it’s hard to see regular playing time for Burleson.

This is Dezenzo’s fifth start in the team’s last six games. Chas McCormick and Jake Meyers don’t have the team’s confidence right now, so the Astros are turning to Dezenzo to see if he can get this offense going. The 24-year-old is hitting .270/.308/.324 on the season, but he does have an elevated 36 percent strikeout rate. Still, if he can provide an offensive spark, the Astros will continue to get him in the lineup, especially with Cam Smith starting to get reps in center field.

Ohtani’s steal was the seventh of the season. The three walks bring his season total to 18, and his on-base percentage is a strong .392 over the first 28 games of 2025. Ohtani has now reached at least three times in three consecutive games, but it’s worth noting he hasn’t gone deep since April 16.

Hernández continues to be a tremendous source of power, and his two-run homer off Edward Cabrera extended the Dodgers’ lead to 5-0 . It also gives him roundtrippers in three straight games, and he’s up to nine long balls on the 2025 season. He’s currently on pace to hit over 50 homers, and while that’s not likely, it’s certainly possible he breaks his career high of 33 based on what he’s shown thus far.

After Dustin May left the game, Myers came on to hit for Matt Mervis off southpaw Anthony Banda, and he slaughtered a ball over the center-field fence to turn a 5-1 deficit into a 5-5 game. He also singled, and he improved his slash to a strong — and totally unsustainable — .315/.327/.463. He does appear to see the ball pretty well against southpaws, however.

Edman came up big for the Dodgers with a two-run single in the bottom of the 10th that turned a 6-5 deficit into a victory. Edman has now driven in 21 runs in 28 games, and that hit sees him slashing .248/.288/.514 on the young campaign. Edman’s average leaves much to be desire, but he’s made up for it with the power and run production.

May blanked the Marlins over five innings, but then was charged for three runs in the sixth; two of those coming on a grand slam after he had left the contest. It’s a shaky result, but a better outing than his 10-hit disaster against the Cubs last Tuesday. Still, May’s ERA has jumped from 1.06 to 3.95 over his last two chances, and he’ll try and get back on track in a rematch with the Marlins in Miami next week.
