Tommy Edman

Tommy Edman is not in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Marlins.
It’s an extremely rare day off for Edman, who is hitting .243/.284/.514 with eight homers, 19 RBI and one steal through 28 games. The versatile 29-year-old has cooled off considerably after a scorching-hot start to the year, hitting .111 (3-for-27) over his last seven games. It’ll be freshly-minted NL Player of the Week, Andy Pages, in center field on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

Marcus Stroman

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Monday that Marcus Stroman is still dealing with left knee issues.
It certainly doesn’t sound like Stroman is close to making it back to New York’s rotation mix at any point in the near future. The 33-year-old righty received a cortisone injection a couple weeks ago after landing on the shelf with left knee inflammation and has yet to resume throwing. It’s looking like he’ll be out until sometime around midseason.

Dane Dunning

Rangers selected the contract of RHP Dane Dunning from Triple-A Round Rock.
Dunning rejoins the Rangers’ relief mix just a couple weeks after being jettisoned from the club’s 40-man roster altogether. The 30-year-old righty failed to make Texas’ season-opening roster, but he’ll get another look in long relief after posting a pedestrian 5.40 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 21/9 K/BB ratio across 20 innings (five starts) for Triple-A Round Rock in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.

Rangers designated RHP Daniel Robert for assignment.
Robert made four relief appearances last year for the Rangers and figures to pass through waivers unclaimed. The 30-year-old righty holds a strong 1.54 ERA across 11 2/3 innings (10 appearances) this season for Triple-A Round Rock.
Nick Kurtz

Nick Kurtz is not in the lineup for Monday’s contest against the Rangers.
Kurtz takes a seat with lefty Patrick Corbin on the mound for Monday’s series opener at Globe Life Field. The 22-year-old top prospect is hitting .250 (4-for-16) with three RBI through five games since being promoted last week to the big leagues. Some initial turbulence isn’t unexpected as Kurtz acclimates to life in the majors less than a calendar year after being selected fourth overall in the draft. It’ll be Tyler Soderstrom at the cold corner on Monday night in his place.

Jeremy Peña

Jeremy Peña is leading off again on Monday against the Tigers.
Peña finds himself in the leadoff spot for the second consecutive contest with Jose Altuve hitting second after sitting out Sunday’s series finale against Kansas City. The Houston Chronicle’s Matt Kawahara notes it’s the first time Altuve hasn’t led off since June 17, 2023. Peña, who has moved around between several lineup spots this season, is hitting .255 (25-for-98) with three homers and five steals through 27 games.

Josh Jung (finger) is in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Athletics.
Jung is back at third base and batting sixth for Monday’s series opener at Globe Life Field following an early exit from Sunday’s showdown against the Giants with a right finger laceration. The fact that he’s already back in the lineup seems to indicate that the Rangers aren’t too concerned, which has to give fantasy managers confidence ahead of weekly lineup locks.

Colton Cowser (thumb) hasn’t been cleared to resume baseball activities.
Orioles general manager Mike Elias told reporters a couple weeks ago that Cowser was likely to return in late May or early June. He hasn’t experienced any setbacks in his recovery from surgery to repair a fractured left thumb. He should be ready to head out on a minor league rehab assignment in a couple weeks.

Andrew Kittredge (knee) will face hitters on Wednesday in a live batting practice session.
Kittredge is working his way back from late March surgery on his left knee. There’s a chance he’s ready to return at some point before the end of May, but that’s not official.

Tyler Wells (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Friday.
Wells is ramping up his throwing program as he targets a second-half return to Baltimore’s rotation mix from last year’s elbow surgery. It wasn’t a full Tommy John reconstructive surgery, so we’re assuming he’ll be ready to return at some point around midseason.

Kyle Bradish (elbow) will throw a bullpen session on Monday.
Bradish still needs to progress to facing hitters before he’s cleared for a rehab assignment. He’s been throwing bullpen sessions for a couple weeks as he continues to work his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery. He should be ready to make his season debut around midseason.

Kyle Gibson

Kyle Gibson will be called up by the Orioles to make his 2025 debut in a start against the Yankees on Tuesday.
Gibson, who signed with the Orioles in late March, returns to the majors having posted a 3.75 ERA and a 13/2 K/BB in 12 innings over three minor league outings. He might offer some AL-only value over the rest of the season, but mixed leagues don’t need to bother.

Jordan Westburg

Jordan Westburg (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Yankees.
Westburg will miss his second straight contest due to ongoing hamstring soreness that cropped up during the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Tigers. He’s day-to-day for the moment and will undergo some additional testing to rule out anything serious. The 26-year-old infielder has been on fire lately, hitting .310 (9-for-29) with one homer and two RBI over his last seven games. It’ll be veteran Ramón Urías at the hot corner on Monday night in his absence.

Ben Rice

Ben Rice is absent from the Yankees lineup for Monday’s game against the Orioles.
If it’s a routine day off, it’s his first against a right-hander this season. Rice has slowed down in recent days, going 3-for-25 with a homer and 10 strikeouts in his last eight games. The Yankees have Trent Grisham in the outfield and Jasson Domínguez at DH tonight, It’s just the second time Domínguez has DH’d this year.
Bradley Blalock

Rockies optioned RHP Bradley Blalock to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Blalock was going back to Triple-A regardless of his performance yesterday, but it still didn’t help his cause that he gave up six runs to the Reds. He might not be the choice the next time the Rockies need a starter.
Alec Burleson
STL • DH
Alec Burleson is on the bench for a fourth straight game Monday against the Reds,
This is the third of those four absences to come against a righty. The Cardinals are prioritizing the development of Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker for now, leaving Burleson on the outside looking in. It also obviously hasn’t helped that Burleson is without a homer in 83 plate appearances this season.
Casey Lawrence

Blue Jays claimed RHP Casey Lawrence off waivers from the Mariners.
Lawrence had already cleared waivers twice this month, but the Jays decided to bring him back to provide some innings for his original organization. He’s out of options — he is 37 after all — so he’ll be added to the major league roster on Tuesday, and he might get a start this week with Easton Lucas demoted. Lawrence had a 3.60 ERA and a 4/1 K/BB in 10 innings for the Mariners.
Tyler Stephenson

Tyler Stephenson (oblique) will play at least two more games for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday and Wednesday.
It looked like Stephenson might make his 2025 debut on Monday against the Cardinals after missing the last month with an oblique strain, but he requested some additional minor league at-bats. He’s thus far gone 3-for-17 with a homer in five games for Louisville.

Guardians recalled RHP Cody Bolton from Triple-A Columbus.
Bolton will be making his Guardians debut. The 26-year-old had a 6.33 ERA in 16 relief appearances for the Pirates in 2023 and a 4.34 ERA in 17 relief appearances for the Mariners last season. The Guardians picked him up earlier this month after Seattle designated him for assignment.
Joey Cantillo

Guardians optioned LHP Joey Cantillo to Triple-A Columbus.
Cantillo had a 2.35 ERA in 15 1/3 innings out of the bullpen, though that was largely because five of the nine runs he’d allowed were unearned. One imagines the Guardians will stretch him back out now to have him available as a rotation alternative. He threw a season-high 55 pitches on Sunday, so he wasn’t going to be available for a couple of days anyway.
Luisangel Acuña

Even though he went 1-for-7 the last two days, Luisangel Acuña is making a third straight start at second base Monday against the Nationals.
It seems like the Mets are prioritizing infield defense over outfield defense. Jeff McNeil is back in center field for the second time in the three games. He didn’t play against a lefty on Sunday, leaving center for Tyrone Taylor.
Jose Barrero

Cardinals selected the contract of INF/OF Jose Barrero from Trlple-A Memphis.
The 27-year-old Barrero, who owns a .497 OPS in 447 major league plate appearances for the Reds from 2020-23, was hitting .299/.396/.517 with four homers in 23 games for Memphis. He will get some starts against lefties, but he’s not being called up to play a ton.
Thomas Saggese

Cardinals optioned INF Thomas Saggese to Triple-A Memphis.
The Cardinals want to keep Nolan Gorman in the lineup most of the time, so the 23-year-old Saggese will return to Triple-A, probably until someone gets hurt. He impressed in hitting .341 with a homer and four doubles in 41 at-bats, and there’s a good chance he’ll finish the season as one of the Cardinals’ starting infielders.
