Obviously, the Cardinals want to move on from Arenado, but they won’t release him in order to do so. Arenado is due to make $27 million next year and $15 million in 2027. That final season was added on to Arenado’s original eight-year contract with the Rockies as part of him waiving his no-trade clause to join the Cardinals.

Nolan Gorman was taken out of the official lineup so that Arenado could be celebrated in what’s probably his final home game in St. Louis, but Gorman was inserted right away when play began. That the Cardinals went this route suggests Arenado has softened on his no-trade stance with two years left on his deal. The Cardinals tried dealing him last winter, but he used his no-trade powers to turn down a deal to Houston.

Arenado broke the game wide open with a bases-clearing three-run double in the fifth inning that transformed a 2-1 lead into a 5-1 advantage. It was his only hit in five at-bats on the night but played a critical role in the victory for the Cardinals. It has been a rough season overall for the 34-year-old third baseman, hitting just .233/.290/.363 with 10 homers and 48 RBI in 411 plate appearances.

The Cardinals don’t need Arenado back at this point, but it could be easier to find a taker for him this winter if he shows he’s healthy these last two weeks. He also might be more inclined to accept a trade if the Cardinals tell him he’ll be a part-timer next year if he sticks around. Arenado has hit .235/.294/.366 with 10 homers and 43 RBI in 394 plate appearances this season. His return probably means less playing time for Nolan Gorman, but Gorman figures to get some starts at first and second to make up for some of what he loses at third.

Arenado will have his ailing shoulder looked at after doing work at the team’s spring training facility headquarters. The 34-year-old could begin a rehab assignment if things check out well, according to Cardinals manager Oli Marmol. If Arenado does return in 2025, it’ll likely be in the early-to-mid portion of September.

Arenado is also expected to begin a throwing program in the coming days as he works his way back from a right shoulder strain. The 34-year-old was placed on the IL on August 1st and will likely need a couple more weeks before he’s built up enough strength to play in games. When he does return, that could mean less playing time for Nolan Gorman and would close off another potential path to playing time for top prospect JJ Wetherholt.

As expected, the 34-year-old defensive wizard hits the injured list with a sore shoulder that has been bothering him for some time now. It’s unclear how long he’ll be sidelined for. Nolan Gorman was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Friday.

Nolan Gorman is coming back from the injured list, so it’s a good time for Arenado to shut things down for a spell and see if he can come back stronger. He’s hit just .175/.230/.211 in 61 plate appearances this month.

It makes sense with Isaac Paredes (hamstring) likely out for a while that the Astros would be looking to find a replacement at third base for the remainder of the season. Morosi indicates that “there’s no momentum toward a deal as of this morning,” but things can change quickly this close to the deadline.

Arenado could potentially be on the move to a contender ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline, but there hasn’t been a ton of buzz on that front quite yet. It’ll be rookie Thomas Saggese taking over at the hot corner in this one.

Arenado’s latest series at his old home in Coors concludes with him going 3-for-12 with a double and an RBI. That’s a pretty typical series for him this year; he’s batting .244, and he’s totaled 26 extra-base hits and 43 RBI in 103 games. The defense is still very good, but he’s only going to be viewed a fallback option for teams at the deadline, and everyone knows he’s very limited in possible destinations anyway.

The 34-year-old slugger missed the final two games before the All-Star break due to a sprained right index finger. It looks like the extended time off did him some good though as he’ll take his rightful spot at the hot corner and will bat sixth for the Cardinals on Friday evening against Brandon Pfaadt and the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

Arenado will sit out for the second straight contest during Sunday’s first-half finale as he continues to deal with a sprained right index finger. There’s been no indication that he’ll require a trip to the injured list to this point. There should be some clarity on his status following next week’s All-Star break. It’ll be rookie Thomas Saggese at the hot corner while Nolan Gorman takes a seat to address a lingering back issue.

No surprise here after Arenado was removed from Friday’s contest against Atlanta with a sprained right index finger. The exact severity of the issue remains a bit murky, but fantasy managers shouldn’t expect to see him again until after next week’s All-Star break. He’s been battling finger and shoulder issues for the last few weeks. It’ll be rookie Thomas Saggese taking over at the hot corner on Saturday afternoon in his absence.

Arenado has been battling through lingering shoulder and finger issues recently, so the All-Star break comes at an opportune time. Arenado missed three games while dealing with a right shoulder impingement. There’s a chance he could see some maintenance games between now and the All-Star break, but for now, he’s feeling well enough to play and that’s obviously a positive development. Nolan Gorman gets a breather with Arenado back in the fold.

Arenado will sit out his third consecutive contest on Tuesday night due to a right shoulder impingement. There hasn’t been a ton of clarity regarding the severity of the issue, but there’s little benefit for St. Louis to rush him back too quickly and risk a setback. It’ll be Nolan Gorman handling the hot corner on Tuesday night at Busch Stadium.

No surprise here after Arenado was scratched from Saturday’s lineup with a right shoulder impingement. The 34-year-old defensive wizard will undergo further evaluation on Sunday to determine the severity of the issue, but there’s optimism from the club that he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list. It’ll be rookie Thomas Saggese drawing another start at the hot corner in his place. There should be a definitive update on his outlook at some point leading into Tuesday’s series opener against the Nationals.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Derrick Goold adds that Arenado is considered day-to-day, according to a team official. It’s a situation fantasy managers will need to monitor closely for the remainder of the weekend. The 34-year-old third baseman has also been playing through a right index finger sprain the past few days, so the extra time off can only help. It’ll be rookie Thomas Saggese taking over at the hot corner on Saturday afternoon against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

The positive news here for the Cardinals, and fantasy managers, is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures and it sounds like Arenado will avoid a trip to the injured list. The 34-year-old, who is officially day-to-day for now, is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Pirates. He figures to get some additional time off to hopefully put the issue to bed. It’ll be Nolan Gorman handling the hot corner in his absence.

Arenado has been playing through a right finger issue that cropped up over the weekend when he jammed it on the basepaths. The 34-year-old defensive wizard will get Tuesday’s game off to rest and recover with Nolan Gorman taking over at the hot corner for the second straight game. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the moment.

Nolan Gorman will take over at the hot corner on Monday night. The decision appears to be precautionary in nature after Arenado jammed his right index finger during Sunday’s lopsided win over the Guardians. The 34-year-old isn’t expected to miss any time, but he’ll get a break from the field, at least until the swelling subsides.

Arenado has picked up his offensive game in the month of June. The 34-year-old third baseman is hitting .274 with four home runs and 14 RBI in 24 June games. Arenado has hit .272 and .266 in his last two full seasons so we should expect his .246 average this year to continue to pick up.

Arenado had been hitless going into the ninth inning. With the Cardinals down by one run, he came through with a solo homer off Emilio Pagan to tie the game before St. Louis ultimately won in the 11th. The 34-year-old third baseman is up to 10 homers while batting .247/.311/.406 with 39 RBI across 299 plate appearances.

Arenado singled in the automatic runner in the 10th, but he was retired while trying to take second base on the throw. The Cardinals still wound up getting an insurance run anyway, as Lars Nootbaar homered. Arenado’s homer, his ninth of the year, was a 385-footer to left-center that would have left 12 ballparks. No. 350 puts him into a tie with Chili Davis for 102nd on the all-time list. Next up are Dick Allen at 351 and Ryan Braun, Ellis Burks and Freddie Freeman at 352.

Arenado smacked a one-out single off of Chris Bassitt in the second inning, but the Cardinals couldn’t cash him in. He then got them on the board with a run-scoring single in the fourth inning and rode home on Nolan Gorman’s three-run blast. The 34-year-old slugger then tagged Chad Green for a 367-foot (101.5 mph EV) two-run shot in the eighth inning that pulled the Cardinals to within two runs at 8-6. He finished the evening 3-for-4 and is now hitting .242/.304/.394 with eight long balls and 35 RBI on the season.
