Krall told MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon that the organization has no plans to move De La Cruz off shortstop despite the dynamic 23-year-old leading the majors in errors during each of the past two seasons. Cincinnati has shortstop prospect Edwin Arroyo on the verge of ascending to the big leagues, but it sounds like the plan is to transition him to another spot eventually. The Reds are going to have another roster logjam on their hands at some point next year — barring an offseason overhaul — with top prospect Sal Stewart ready to join the big-league corner infield mix.

The rest of the team combined to go 2-for-26. Still, it’s terrific for the Reds that De La Cruz seems to have turned things around. All three of his balls in play tonight were hit at least 102 mph, with the homer traveling 415 feet.

Spencer Steer and De La Cruz hit back-to-back homers in the sixth, with both collecting their 20th of the year. De La Cruz also walked twice, but he was picked off/caught stealing after one of those. That leaves him 35-for-43 stealing bases this year.

De La Cruz had started 148 games this season and hit third in all of them. Unfortunately, this seems like a necessary change with De La Cruz having hit .206/.243/.291 since the beginning of August. His last homer came on July 31. The Reds have platoon player Miguel Andujar batting third against a lefty tonight.

Elly had been hitless until the eighth inning when his single scored TJ Friedl to tie the game at one apiece. He would later steal second base and come around to score the eventual winning run on a single by Miguel Andujar. Elly has 34 steals and 82 RBI on the season to go along with a .266/.334/.440 slash line. He has taken a step back in power, with just 19 home runs this year, which could, along with his poor performance against left-handed pitching, be a minor deterrent in using a top-five pick on him next year, but he remains a solid first-round pick.

The triple is the fifth of the season; a solid total but one that feels “low” for a hitter who makes as much hard contact and runs as fast as EDLC does. The 23-year-old also singled to up his average to .274 with an OPS of .806.

De La Cruz had the only extra-base hit for the Reds in their eight run effort. The 23-year-old shortstop hit a two-run double off D.L. Hall as part of a seven-run second inning for the Reds. De La Cruz is hitting .276 with an .810 OPS and 76 RBI this season.

De La Cruz doubled in the first inning, then drew a walk in the fourth. With the game tied and bases loaded in the seventh, he came through with a go-ahead base hit to drive in two runs before stealing second. The 23-year-old shortstop is hitting .285/.365/.490 with 18 homers, 78 runs scored, 67 RBI, and 28 steals across 452 plate appearances.

The steal gives De La Cruz 27 on the season. On top of that impressive swip total, the 23-year-old has hit .276/.357/.478 with 16 homers. Even in a game where he doesn’t get a hit, a player like De La Cruz can make an impact. You can’t teach speed, folks.

De La Cruz wound up crossing the plate three times during Monday’s bizarre slugfest with a trio of walks, raising his on-base percentage to a sublime .391 mark over his last 30 games. The 23-year-old dynamo might not be able to match last year’s 67-steal performance, but he seems like a virtual lock to get back to the 50-theft threshold and is also on pace to eclipse the 30-homer mark. That’ll do.

Evidently, the Rockies had no intentions of letting De La Cruz beat them in this one. He was down 0-2 in the first inning and took four straight balls to draw the walk. Then, he tripled in his next at-bat and enough was enough. Colorado walked him intentionally in his next three triple to plate. Weird, interesting, strange, and a big boon to his .853 OPS as we near the All-Star break.

The 23-year-old All-Star shortstop singled off of Cal Quantrill with two outs in the opening inning, swiped second base and raced around to score the game’s first run on an RBI single off the bat of Spencer Steer. He then tacked on an RBI single of his own in the sixth that made it a 4-0 ballgame and scored on a two-run single by Hays. He has had a terrific first half at the dish, slashing .280/.351/.488 with 18 homers, 63 RBI, 71 runs scored and 23 stolen bases in 29 attempts.

De La Cruz’ stolen base was No. 22 on the season. While that’s well behind his stolen base pace last year when he stole 67 bases, De La Cruz has improved as a hitter this season. The 23-year-old superstar shortstop is hitting .279 with an .863 OPS in 82 games this year compared to .255 with an .809 OPS last year.

The Reds were stifled by Max Fried in this one. De La Cruz accounted for two of their three hits and scored their only run on a throwing error by Jazz Chisholm. He’s turned a serious corner over the last month with a .336/.409/.699 slash line in his last 30 games.

De La Cruz came up a double shy of hitting for the cycle on Monday night as he capped off an impressive three-hit effort with an opposite-field solo shot — his 18th round-tripper of the season — against Yankees lefty reliever Tim Hill in the eighth inning. He put Cincinnati on the scoreboard with a run-scoring triple to center field in the fourth inning before picking up an additional RBI in the ensuing frame with a bases-loaded single to shallow right field. The 23-year-old fantasy superstar is in the midst of one of the best stretches of his career, hitting .309 (21-for-68) with six homers, 12 RBI and four steals in 20 games since June 1.

De La Cruz tripled in the third inning and was thrown out at home trying to reach home on a throwing error. He then came up in a big spot in the seventh, slugging a game-tying two-run homer off Steven Matz. The 23-year-old shortstop is hitting .265/.344/.493 with 17 homers, 59 runs scored, 52 RBI, and 21 steals across 331 plate appearances.

De La Cruz’s home run was his 16th of the year. After the Reds came back to take the lead late in the game, the 23-year-old shortstop extended the lead to 8-4 with a two-run shot off Brennan Hanifee in the top of the ninth inning. De La Cruz is on a hot streak with home runs in each of his last four games. He’s hitting .273 with an .850 OPS and 50 RBI this season.

The superstar shortstop victimized Tigers’ right-hander Keider Montero for a 374-foot (109.8 mph EV) solo shot in the fifth inning that pulled the Reds to within a run at 3-2. That would be as close as they would get. He also singled in the seventh inning and drove in a run with an RBI double in the ninth inning. With his three-hit attack, the 23-year-old is now slashing .267/.347/.477 with 14 homers, 46 RBI and 20 stolen bases on the season.

De La Cruz made it back for Saturday’s regularly scheduled contest against the Diamondbacks after missing Friday’s eventual suspended series opener due to issues with his flight back from the Dominican Republic. The 23-year-old fantasy superstar missed a handful of games earlier this week following the passing of his sister. He’s back at shortstop and batting third on Sunday afternoon ahead of a red-hot Christian Encarnacion-Strand, who has homered in back-to-back games since returning from the injured list.

De La Cruz connected at 117.4 mph on the homer, which looked like it might go foul but was deemed fair and then confirmed on review. De La Cruz opted to play today following the death of his sister, Genesis, in the Dominican Republic on Saturday. It’s possible he’ll spend time on the bereavement list later this week.

Reds manager Terry Francona refused to delve into specifics on Saturday, classifying it as merely a “leg” issue that De La Cruz has been managing and playing through. If he’s dealing with any sort of underlying physical issue, it certainly hasn’t impacted his on-field performance of late. The 23-year-old fantasy superstar has notched at least one hit in seven straight games and is batting .346 with three homers and one steal during that span.

The dynamic 23-year-old superstar victimized Jonathan Bowlan for a 436-foot (111.1 mph EV) solo shot in the fourth inning that tied the score at 2-2. He then gave the Reds the lead with a 451-foot (112.5 mph EV) bomb off of Taylor Clarke in the sixth inning, giving the Reds a lead they would never surrender. He was also walked intentionally and scored in the eighth inning. De La Cruz has been a monster for fantasy purposes this season, slashing .256/.331/.443 with 11 homers, 40 RBI and 17 stolen bases.

De La Cruz filled the stat sheet in the team’s victory Saturday, starting with a two-run homer in the first inning off Colin Rea. He drove in two more runs with a base hit in the fifth before stealing second and scoring on a hit by Spencer Steer. De La Cruz reached one more time with a walk in the seventh. The 23-year-old shortstop is slashing .248/.322/.417 with nine homers, 35 runs scored, 37 RBI, and 17 steals across 230 plate appearances.

De La Cruz hit the doubles 105.1 and 110.5 mph, with the former being a 369-foot fly that would have been a homer in 14 ballparks. He’s been having problems elevating the ball, with a 59% groundball rate this season, but all three of his balls in play were liners or flies tonight.

After knocking a base hit in the third inning, De La Cruz manufactured some offense in the eighth with a leadoff single. He then stole second and scored the only run of the game for the Reds on a base hit by Santiago Espinal. The 23-year-old shortstop is up to 14 steals while hitting .266/.346/.406 with five homers, 25 runs scored, and 25 RBI across 162 plate appearances.

This game got out of hand quickly after Chase Petty coughed up nine runs in fewer than three innings in his major league debut. De La Cruz was still able to notch a few hits though and extend his hitting streak. While his full-season stat line doesn’t feel gaudy at the moment, he’s still on pace for 25 home runs, nearly 60 stolen bases, and 100 runs and RBI apiece.

De La Cruz took Pirates starter Andrew Heaney deep with a no-doubter to left field in the third inning for his second career grand slam. It was his third round-tripper of the season and wound up being his lone hit in four at-bats in a relatively low-scoring contest at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park. The 23-year-old X-factor is still striking out close to 30 percent of the time, but it won’t make a significant difference for fantasy purposes, especially if his elite power/speed combo remains intact.
