The Red Sox had experimented with Campbell at both second base and first base this season, trying to find a way to get his bat in the lineup quickly by having him play a position of need. However, he struggled defensively at second base, and the constant position changes appear to have also impacted his offensive performance. The outfield is Campbell’s best position defensively, and the Red Sox could use his right-handed bat in a left-handed-heavy group. Of course, Campbell moving to the outfield full-time only pours more fuel on the fire of rumors that Jarren Duran will be traded this offseason.

Campbell is just 6'3" and 190 pounds, so he’s not a player who can afford to lose much weight, but he also has a “ferocious swing” that uses most of his body mass to create impactful contact. When his weight started to dip, his exit velocities also decreased. Abraham mentioned that a focus for Campbell this offseason is “getting back the strength that allowed him to impact the baseball the way he could.” Campbell is expected to head to Fort Myers, Florida soon, where he will begin an offseason training program focused on adding weight and gaining strength. He could be a post hype candidate in 2026 if the Red Sox can find a defensive home for him.

That’s not to say that the 23-year-old infielder won’t get another opportunity with the big league club in September, it just won’t be right away. He has been on a serious heater over the past month at Triple-A Worcester though and could provide a nice spark to the Red Sox’ lineup if given the chance.

Over his last 30 games at Triple-A, Campbell is hitting .331/.415/.525 with six home runs, 26 runs scored, and 22 RBI. It appears that the swing change the Red Sox were working on is starting to take. Interestingly, Campbell also played center field in this game, which is potentially setting him up to be a super utility option for Boston when rosters expand in September.

Even with his early struggles following his demotion to Triple-A, Campbell is hitting .280/.408/.411 in 40 games at Triple-A with five home runs, 21 RBI, and two steals. He has also been playing good defense at first base and should be an option for the Red Sox with Abraham Toro starting to go cold at the plate since July 1st.

It feels like only a matter of time before the Red Sox bring Campbell back for another shot in the majors since he appears to be driving the ball with authority to all fields again. The 23-year-old former top prospect crushed a no-doubter to left field during Sunday’s contest at Polar Park for his first big fly since July 29. There might not be an everyday role for him in Boston right away, but he’ll offer some appeal as a versatile bench option as they battle for a playoff spot over the final seven weeks.

Campbell is now rocking a 14-game hitting streak that has seen him go 20-for-49 (.408), with a 7/9 BB/K ratio. He’s pulling the ball more, which is what the Red Sox wanted, and should be nearing a return to the big league lineup.

Campbell has now homered in back-to-back games and is working on an eight-game hitting streak. When the Red Sox sent Campbell back to Triple-A, the goal was to have him work on learning first base and also adjust his approach at the plate to handle inside pitches better. During this eight-game hitting streak, he’s gone 15-for-35 (.333) with three home runs, six RBI, and a 5/4 K/BB ratio. If the Red Sox don’t add a first baseman at the deadline, there’s a chance that Campbell gets another shot this summer.

Campbell has been working on his swing at Triple-A, in addition to learning how to play first base, and it appears that things may be starting to click of late. The 23-year-old is now riding an eight-game hitting streak and is slashing .407/.484/.667 since July 19. It’s unlikely that the Red Sox use Campbell at second base with Marcelo Mayer (wrist) sidelined, so there may not be an immediate opening for him at the big league level, but the team would love to get his bat going regardless.

It was his only hit in five at-bats, though he did have two other hard-hit balls. There’s been no quick turnaround for Campbell in Triple-A, as he’s thus far hit .200/.389/.345 with 23 strikeouts in 72 plate appearances. He’s started at first base eight times and at second base five times while in the minors.

This is Campbell’s first start at first base after beginning to work at the position once he was demoted. Campbell struggled at the plate on Wednesday, striking out four times, but the 22-year-old can be afford some grace at the plate given all the work he’s doing on the defensive side of the ball. Given all the changes, we should expect Campbell to take some time at Triple-A to get comfortable with the adjustments.

While he’ll also see action at second base and in center field, it sounds like the Red Sox want him to become an actual option at first base before he rejoins the big league roster. He also has to get his offensive game back on track as the 22-year-old was slashing an atrocious .159/.243/.222 since the calendar flipped to May.

As expected, Campbell is down after scuffling mightily since the start of May. The 22-year-old will get a chance to work on some things in Triple-A, and he’ll be replaced on the active roster by Wilyer Abreu with Abreu coming off the injured list as the corresponding transaction.

As Passan notes, Campbell has struggled mightily since the start of May with a slash of .159/.243/.222 in that timeframe. The 22-year-old offers considerable offensive upside and Boston obviously isn’t giving up on a player they signed to a $60 million contract extension, but fantasy managers should be looking for upgrades if they haven’t already. A corresponding move should be announced shortly.

The 22-year-old rookie infielder tagged Yankees’ starter Carlos Rodón for a 349-foot (99.0 mph EV) two-run shot in the fifth inning that tied the game at two runs apiece. It was just his second home run since April 29 and first since May 13. Campbell also drew a walk and singled in the ballgame, finishing the night 2-for-3. On the season, he’s now slashing .233/.323/.364 with five long balls, 20 RBI and two stolen bases in 234 plate appearances.

The 22-year-old top prospect has cooled considerably after his hot start to the season and could soon be at risk of being sent back to Triple-A Worcester for additional seasoning. He’s slashing a horrifying .131/.196/.172 with one home run, four RBI and a 32/6 K/BB ratio over 107 plate appearances in his last 27 games dating back to April 30. David Hamilton will start in his place at second base and bat eighth against Will Warren and the Yankees on Friday night.

Campbell didn’t end up making his professional debut at the cold corner last week and it doesn’t sound like that’s in the works with both Gonzalez and Abraham Toro as options at the position. The 22-year-old top prospect figures to continue splitting time between second base and left field moving forward.

The most frustrating ongoing quagmire in the baseball landscape continues. Red Sox manager Alex Cora has apparently decided to reverse course after telling reporters earlier this week that Campbell would play first base at some point during this weekend’s series against Atlanta. That’s not happening anymore. It’ll be Abraham Toro at the cold corner and batting cleanup during Sunday’s finale at Truist Park.

As Campbell prepares to play first base for the first time on Sunday, it must be emphasized how little he’s hitting like a first baseman at the moment. The AL Rookie of the Month for batting .301/.407/.495 in April, he just finished off a .134/.184/.171 month of May. He had one extra-base hit and four RBI in 87 plate appearances. Because he signed a long-term deal, the Red Sox have nothing to gain financially by sending him down. However, if his slump lasts for another week or two, they should consider it anyway.

Campbell has been taking reps at first base prior to games for the last week or so, and it seems like the Red Sox will finally see what he looks like in game action. Moving Campbell to first base would open up the possibility to put Ceddanne Rafaela back in the infield at second base and call up Roman Anthony to finally make his MLB debut.

Campbell is mired in a rough 9-for-75 (.120) slump since the start of May with a 29 percent strikeout rate. The 22-year-old came into this year with only 19 games played above Double-A, but the Red Sox have also put a lot on his plate with starting him at both second base and center field while also giving him pre-game reps at 1B since Triston Casas’ injury. It’s possible that it’s all been a bit too much at one time for Campbell. David Hamilton will start at second base and bat seventh on Wednesday.

Campbell is back in Boston’s lineup after getting a two-game break in an effort to reset mentally after .085 (4-for-47) with one homer and 15 strikeouts over 11 games to open the month of May. It’s interesting that he’s in center field, in addition to taking pre-game defensive reps at first base recently, with top prospect Marcelo Mayer seemingly being prepared down at Triple-A Worcester to take over at second base.

It appears to be a routine day off for Campbell, who has run into an extended cold spell at the plate in recent weeks, hitting .197/.271/.308 with three homers and one steal over his last 30 games. The 22-year-old top prospect, who started taking defensive reps at first base earlier this week during pre-game drills, will get a break during Sunday’s series finale to resent mentally. He’s far too talented to continue struggling, but he’s going through it at the moment. It’ll be utility infielder David Hamilton at the keystone on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Sox will get the 22-year-old a look at the not-so-hot corner, but this is far from a guarantee he’s going to play there. It’d be intriguing from a fantasy perspective to see another position added to his profile, and it would expedite the arrival of Marcelo Mayer, who looks big league ready but has no place in the Red Sox lineup. It’s worth noting that Campbell has not looked great defensively at second base, so this is a situation to monitor, at the very least.

Campbell is back at second base and hitting cleanup on Sunday afternoon following a three-game absence due to right rib discomfort. The 22-year-old top prospect, who is hitting .301/.401/.495 with four homers, 12 RBI and two steals through 29 games, has been moved to the heart of the order for the first time this season in the wake of Triston Casas’ season-ending knee injury.

Campbell will miss his third consecutive contest on Saturday afternoon due to an ongoing right rib discomfort. The 22-year-old top prospect was expected to rejoin Boston’s lineup this weekend, so it qualifies as a mild surprise that he’s still out. There should be some clarity on his status at some point in the near future. It’ll be David Hamilton filling in at the keystone in his absence. Clearly, the Red Sox don’t want to take any chances here with a young player they envision as a core component of their future.

Campbell will miss another game after being scratched from Thursday’s lineup with what is being described as soreness in his ribs. The 22-year-old should be considered day-to-day, but he’ll miss at least the start of Friday’s bout with Minnesota. David Hamilton gets the start at second base while Campbell recovers.
