The 33-year-old outfielder had a disappointing season at the plate in 2025, slashing .250/.294/.400 with 17 homers and 72 RBI in 589 plate appearances, matching his career low with a .694 OPS. It got to a point late in the season where he became nothing more than a platoon bat for the Phillies against left-handed pitching. The Phillies would prefer to trade the disgruntled outfielder rather than eating the final $20 million on his contract to release him, but it’s unclear if they’ll be able to find a willing partner over the winter.

Philadelphia’s ninth-inning rally came up just short as Trea Turner grounded out with the potential tying run at third base to end the contest. Castellanos came through with the biggest hit of the late rally, lining a two-run double down the left-field line against Blake Treinen. Unfortunately, he was thrown out at third base by Max Muncy on ensuing batter Bryson Stott’s sacrifice bunt attempt, which ultimately played a big role in Los Angeles figuring out how to escape the frame.

Castellanos, who had been 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the contest, hit the game-winner just 298 feet to center field with Harrison Bader on third, but James Outman didn’t get much on the throw home and there was no play at the plate. The win makes the Phillies 96-66, which is one game better than last year’s record and their best finish since going 102-60 in 2011. Castellanos closes out the regular season at .250/.294/.400.

Max Kepler presumably is still dealing with the illness that knocked him out of last night’s game, so Castellanos is playing right field tonight. A platoon guy of late, he’s hit .286 with one homer and 10 RBI in 45 plate appearances this month.

Castellanos connected on a two-run homer off Jake Woodford in the eighth inning. The outfielder also drove in a run with a single in the ninth to bring that total to 69 while the roundtripper gives him 17. Castellanos is not the same offensive threat he was a few years ago, but he’s still capable of fireworks here and there.

Starting against a lefty, Castellanos had two hits and two runs scored last night against the Brewers, but it wasn’t enough to get him a nod over Max Kepler or Harrison Bader against a right-hander today. It’s the sixth time in the last 18 games that Castellanos has taken a seat. He started 120 of the Phillies’ 122 games previously.

It looks like nothing more than a routine night off for the 33-year-old outfielder. Max Kepler will start in his place in right field and will bat seventh for the Phillies against Braves’ right-hander Cal Quantrill.

It’ll be a Brandon Marsh-Harrison Bader-Max Kepler outfield today. Castellanos did have two hits on both Sunday and Monday, but it seems like the Phillies are finally figuring out that he’s just not really worth having in the lineup against right-handers. The next step now is to call up Justin Crawford and turn Castellanos into a true platoon player.

Castellanos hit seventh on Opening Day, but he’d never hit so low since, making 49 starts in the cleanup spot, 59 batting fifth and 11 batting sixth. We still doubt the Phillies will take him out of the lineup entirely, but it would seem to be time. He’s batting .182/.206/.321 during the second half.

Calling up Justin Crawford and releasing Castellanos would almost have to be an upgrade for the Phillies, even if Crawford disappoints offensively. Castellanos is down to .256/.294/.412 for the season, and he’s just such a liability defensively that even when he’s an above average hitter, he’s not really helping. He’s only been an actual above average hitter in one of his four seasons in Philadelphia anyway.

Castellanos led off the second inning with a single off of Charlie Morton and advanced to third on a double by Brandon Marsh. He then dashed home on a ground ball to second base off the bat of Max Kepler to score the game’s first run. That would be all the support that Cristopher Sánchez would require. For the season, the 33-year-old slugger is now hitting .269/.309/.436 with 15 long balls and 60 RBI.

Castellanos took Tarik Skubal deep for a two-run homer in the seventh inning to cut the Tigers’ lead to two runs. The 33-year-old slugger is up to 15 homers and 60 RBI while slashing .268/.309/.437 across 444 plate appearances.

Castellanos returns to right field and the cleanup spot Sunday at Yankee Stadium after missing one game with a left knee bruise. The 33-year-old veteran appears to be fine after jamming his knee during Friday’s contest, and the issue doesn’t seem to be a long-term concern.

It’s a rare day off for Castellanos, who has gotten into pretty much every game this season for Philadelphia, after jamming his left knee during Friday’s game. Phillies manager Rob Thomson downplayed concern to reporters, but fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status for Sunday’s series finale. He’s hitting .270/.311/.434 with 13 round-trippers, 56 RBI and four steals in 102 contests this year. The 33-year-old veteran corner outfielder takes a seat to open Saturday’s matinee at Yankee Stadium with Max Kepler patrolling right field.

Castellanos gave the Phillies a commanding four-run advantage with a fifth-inning solo shot against Padres knuckleballer Matt Waldron. The 33-year-old veteran corner outfielder has gone deep twice in his last four contests.

The 33-year-old slugger smacked a one-out double off of David Peterson in the fourth inning and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Otto Kemp. He also added a run-scoring double off of Tyler Zuber in the seventh inning that increased the Phillies’ lead to 7-0. On the season, he’s now slashing .286/.327/.446 with eight homers and 41 RBI.

What a week it’s been for Castellanos. After being benched by manager Rob Thompson on Tuesday to snap his consecutive games played streak, he made a great catch in right field to secure their win on Wednesday then led their late inning charge against the Mets here to reclaim first place in the division. After this game was tied 2-2 in the seventh, Castellanos hit a run-scoring single to extend their rally in that inning and dropped the hammer with a two-run homer in the following frame. As usual, he’s been an incredibly reliable run producer in the middle of this Phillies lineup.

Teams typically keep little punishments like this in house, so it’s interesting that Thomson is choosing to make a point of it. Castellanos had started all 162 games last year and all 72 games this season for the Phillies. Johan Rojas gets a start tonight with Castellanos absent.

Castellanos had just one hit on the day, but made it count. The grand slam was his seventh home run of the year. Castellanos took Eric Swanson deep with the bases loaded in the sixth inning to give the Phillies a 10-2 lead. He’s hitting .279 with a .750 OPS and 36 RBI on the year.

All four hits were singles. Castellanos is now hitting 289 on the season with a respectable .330 on-base clip, but the .408 slugging percentage leaves something to be desired. The 33-year-old isn’t an elite power hitter, but his track record suggests he should see the ball travel over the fence on a more consistent basis this summer.

Castellanos delivered an RBI single off of Brad Lord in the sixth inning that pulled the Phillies to within two runs at 4-2. That would be as close as they would get. With his two-hit attack, the 33-year-old is now slashing .278/.333/.426 with three long balls and 17 RBI on the season.

Castellanos went 2-for-3 with a double before being lifted from Friday’s contest out of an abundance of caution in the fifth inning solely because the Phillies were up by a touchdown at the time. Philadelphia manager Rob Thomson told reporters afterwards that the veteran outfielder, who has been working through a hip flexor issue, is expected to be in the lineup for Saturday’s showdown.

It’s unclear when exactly Castellanos sustained the injury, but he was replaced when the Phillies took the field defensively to start the seventh inning. He’ll head for further testing to determine the severity of the injury. Expect the Phillies to provide an update — and a possible timeline for his return — as soon as more information becomes available.

Victor Scott II nearly made an outstanding catch on the double that produced both runs, but it went off his glove. Castellanos is off to a .308/.357/.519 start, and his fantasy value is, at least temporarily, up a tad with Alec Bohm getting dropped in the Philadelphia lineup.
