The procedure isn’t expected to impact Herrera’s regular off-season routine and he should be a full participant when pitchers and catchers report to spring camp in February. The 25-year-old slashed an impressive .284/.373/.464 with 19 homers, 66 RBI and eight stolen bases in his first full season as the Cardinals’ starting catcher in 2025.

Herrera knocked a base hit and scored a run in the first inning, then drew a walk in the fifth before slugging a three-run homer off Joey Lucchesi in the seventh to bring the Cardinals to within two runs. The 25-year-old backstop has homered in three straight games, giving him 19 on the season while slashing .283/.375/.471 across 437 plate appearances.

In a season where the Cardinals have been fairly nondescript, Herrera has been a bright spot. His two-run homer off Justin Verlander made it a 4-4 game in the fifth, and it pushed his homer total to 18 on the season. He also drew a pair of walks, and his slash improved to a very strong .281/.372/.462. It will be another season where St. Louis isn’t going to play in October, but Herrera gives them a solid building block.

In spite of the loss, the Brewers still clinched the NL Central with the Cubs also losing today. Herrera was drilled in the arm in the bottom of the first in apparent retaliation for his backswing hitting William Contreras on Saturday. He then hit a 419-foot homer in his second plate appearance. Herrera is currently batting .281/.369/.455, which will obviously play anywhere. Still, it’d be nice if he could resume catching, at least occasionally, next year.

Herrera put the Cardinals ahead as he ambushed a first-pitch fastball from Jacob Misiorowski and crushed a 394-foot (100.8 mph EV) solo shot in the top of the first inning. He also singled in the third inning then doubled and scored on an RBI knock by Willson Contreras in the fifth. The 25-year-old backstop also drew a walk in the sixth inning. Herrera also bounced into a double play in the 10th inning that allowed the go-ahead run to score. He’s now slashing .285/.373/.465 with 16 homers, 57 RBI and seven stolen bases in 395 plate appearances in what has been a very productive season at the plate.

Herrera tagged right-hander Tristan Beck for a 413-foot (107.3 mph EV) solo shot that pulled the Cardinals to within six runs at 8-2. That would be as close as they would get. On the season, the 25-year-old backstop is now hitting .283/.366/.452 with 14 homers and 54 RBI.

The Cardinals had gone scoreless through five innings and trailed by one run until Herrera took Michael Kelly deep for a two-run blast in the sixth. The 25-year-old slugger is up to 13 homers and 53 RBI while slashing .287/.368/.450 across 354 plate appearances.

Herrera’s homer off Anthony Banda made it a 2-1 game in the eighth. The Dodgers tied it back up afterwards, but then pinch-hitter Yohel Pozo plated pinch-runner Garrett Hampson in the ninth to give the Cardinals the lead again. Herrea’s homer was crushed 428 feet to center, leaving his bat at 109.4 mph. His single, though, was hit even harder at 111.7 mph. He has seven hits the last three days and is now batting .310 with 10 homers and 40 RBI in 60 games on the season.

Herrera will make his first career start in left field after spending the past couple weeks exclusively at DH since being activated from the injured list. The 25-year-old slugging backstop has hit .286 with one homer and two steals in 11 games since returning back on July 13.

Herrera is back at DH and batting second for Sunday’s first-half finale against Atlanta following a three-week absence recovering from a left hamstring strain. The 25-year-old slugging backstop has been pummeled by leg injuries this season and is unlikely to spend too much time, if any, behind the plate over the final two-plus months of the year. He’s some some serious over-the-fence pop with eight homers in 42 games and should be rostered in all fantasy formats as a potential upper-echelon catcher, if he can stay on the field.

It sounds like the hard-hitting 25-year-old backstop will remain there at least through the weekend and be ready to join the Cardinals coming out of next week’s All-Star break. Herrera was given a timeline of two-to-six weeks when he landed on the injured list on June 20, so it seems like that timetable tracks. His return will likely push Pedro Pages back into a reserve role while costing Yohel Pozo his spot on the active roster.

Herrera has been snake-bitten by injuries this season, but there’s optimism he’ll be ready to make it back to St. Louis following next week’s All-Star break. The 25-year-old slugging backstop hit the injured list back in late June with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain.

The recovery timetable for that injury ranges from two-to-six weeks, so it sounds like Herrera could be shelved for a while once again. Pedro Pages will handle the bulk of the action behind the dish once again while Herrera is sidelined.

It’s not known when Herrera picked up the strain, but it’ll keep him out of action for at least a week-plus. The 25-year-old will hit the shelf for the rest of June, and Thomas Sagesse is up to replace the backstop on the roster; albeit in a much different role.

It’s kind of eerie how all of Herrera’s best offensive games come when he’s catching. His previous homer came Monday, which was also the last game he had caught. In between, he was limited to four singles in 20 at-bats as a DH. He’s currently batting .377 with six homers in 12 games as a catcher, compared to .284 with two homers in 27 games as a DH.

Herrera would have been the hero if Ryan Helsley could have nailed this one down tonight, but it wasn’t meant to be. The homer was Herrera’s seventh of the year. Including tonight’s, five of those have come in his 11 games behind the plate, compared to two in 22 games as a DH. It’s hard to say if that means anything, though.

The homer off Taylor Clarke gave the Cardinals a 4-3 lead in the eighth, though that would be blown. Herrera was terrific in his first 10 games back from the IL last month, but he’d slumped of late, going 6-for-38 with one extra-base hit in his previous 11 games. He hadn’t homered since May 12.

Herrera’s 10 games since coming off the IL have seen him DH eight times, catch once and sit once. That’s probably not the best mix for his post-2025 fantasy value, but it’s working great for now. In the nine games before he got hurt last month, he caught six times and sat three times.

It seems like a planned day off for Herrera as the Cardinals try to avoid ramping up his workload too quickly. The 24-year-old slugging backstop went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI on Friday at DH in his return to St. Louis’ lineup following a nearly five-week absence recovering from a bone bruise in his left knee. It’s a positive sign that he’s back, but fantasy managers should expect the club to avoid putting too much on his plate right out of the gate. It’ll be Alec Burleson at DH with Pedro Páges handling the catching duties on Saturday afternoon.

Herrera has been out of commision since the start of April with a bone bruise in his left knee. He should resume catching duties with the Cardinals, and is worthy of consideration in fantasy leagues for those who need help behind the plate.

Herrera was at DH in his latest rehab contest after recording seven innings behind the plate during Tuesday’s game. The 24-year-old backstop figures to return to the Cardinals’ lineup at some point later this week. He’s been out since early April working his way back from a bone bruise in his left knee.

The positive news for fantasy managers is that Herrera was able to catch seven innings behind the plate in his return to game action after dealing with some renewed left knee soreness over the weekend. There’s a chance the 24-year-old slugging backstop is ready to rejoin the Cardinals’ lineup at some point in the next few days.

Herrera was able to catch on Friday at Triple-A Memphis, but is dealing with some residual knee soreness afterwards, which could potentially delay his return to St. Louis by a couple days. It doesn’t sound like a significant setback, if at all, but it’s worth noting as he works his way back from a bone bruise in his left knee.

Herrera won the duel of the rehabbing catchers, as Tyler Stephenson went 0-for-5 as Louisville’s DH. Herrera will need to catch at least a couple of times before coming off the IL, hopefully early next week. He’s coming back from a bone bruise in his left knee suffered while running to first base.

Herrera caught a bullpen session on Saturday and is aiming to begin a minor league rehab assignment by the end of next week. The 24-year-old backstop was originally expected to miss roughly one month after being diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left knee back in early April. It appears there’s a decent shot he’ll rejoin the Cardinals’ lineup at some point in early May.

When the 24-year-old backstop initially suffered the bone bruise in his left knee, the expectation was that he would miss at least a month’s worth of action. We’re about three weeks out right now, which would seem to put him on track if he is indeed able to return to game action at some point next week. It’s unclear how many games he’ll need to get into before the Cardinals are ready to bring him back though. Those counting on Pedro Páges for everyday at-bats may soon need to look elsewhere.
