Hoskins returns to Milwaukee’s lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Rangers following a two-month absence recovering from a left thumb sprain. The 32-year-old power-hitter has supplied 12 round-trippers in 82 games this season. The interesting wrinkle here is that the Brewers are holding onto Andrew Vaughn as a bench bat instead of sending him packing.

The expectation is that Hoskins will be activated for Tuesday’s game in Texas, according to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy. The 32-year-old run-producing first baseman has been on the shelf since early July recovering from a left thumb sprain. His return likely spells the end of the rollercoaster Andrew Vaughn era at the cold corner in Milwaukee.

Hoskins is obviously ready to return from his thumb injury, but the Brewers haven’t been in any hurry to find a role for him. Maybe that will change if Andrew Vaughn continues to slump, but Vaughn did have three hits Thursday after being held out of the lineup the previous two games.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Brewers try to squeeze Hoskins in with Andrew Vaughn seemingly having supplanted him at first base. They’ll probably give Christian Yelich some more outfield time, but they’re not going to risk overworking him there just to get a little more offense in the lineup. Hoskins figures to spend the rest of the week in the minors before any tough decisions have to be made.

Hoskins has been out of action since the early portion of July, so the 32-year-old will likely need a good number of games before he’s clear. If there are no setbacks, the right-handed slugger should rejoin the Brew Crew at the end of August.

Hoskins will probably miss at least the rest of July after getting hurt because a bad throw from Joey Ortiz led to an awkward tag at first base. Jake Bauers and Andrew Vaughn could platoon at first base, though Vaughn will probably see time against righties, too, when Bauers is in the outfield.

Hoskins’ MRI revealed a Grade 2 left thumb sprain. There had been hope that Hoskins could play through the injury but that unfortunately will not be the case. Expect a roster move to be made on Monday. The expectation is that Jake Bauers will see the bulk of the action at first base while Hoskins is shelved.

Hoskins will get a breather, as expected, during Sunday’s game with Jake Bauers handling the cold corner. The 32-year-old first baseman left Saturday’s game against the Marlins with left thumb discomfort and could wind up getting a few additional days off this coming week. He’s officially day-to-day for the moment.

Hoskins told reporters that the thumb is “jammed” but not broken, so the 32-year-old will likely need to spend a few days while it’s difficult for him to grip a bat. While Hoskins is out, it seems likely Jake Bauers will be the starter at first base.

The injury occurred while making a tag in the fourth inning. The 32-year-old was replaced by Jake Bauers. He’ll likely need to undergo testing, and his potential availability should be updated before Saturday’s game against Miami.

There haven’t been any rumblings about any sort of injury for Hoskins, but this is the second time that he has found himself on the pine in the team’s last four ballgames. Jake Bauers will start in his place at first base and bat seventh against Marlins’ right-hander Sandy Alcantara.

Hoskins is 4-for-26 with no extra-base hits this month, dropping his OPS from .849 to .789. The Brewers might hit him a little lower in the lineup against right-handers as a response, but they don’t have much choice other than to stick with him until his next hot streak.

Hoskins’ homer off Jeffrey Springs was his third, all of which have come in his last five games. He’s raised his OPS from .519 to .778 during the stretch. That might make it tempting to give him a look in mixed leagues, but he doesn’t have great matchups with road series against the Giants and Cardinals this week.
