Matthews racked up six strikeouts on the evening and didn’t walk a batter. The only blemish on his day came on a leadoff home run off the bat of Joc Pederson. After that, he was brilliant. The 25-year-old right-hander got 12 whiffs on 90 pitches on the night — eight of them on his slider — while registering a CSW of 27 percent. He finishes the season with a 5-6 record, 5.56 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and an 88/24 K/BB ratio over 79 1/3 innings in 16 starts with the Twins.

Matthews also issued two free passes on the night while striking out a pair. The Yankees got to him early and often in this one and didn’t let up, striking for two runs in the first, four runs in the second — including a two-run blast by Trent Grisham — and three more in the third. Matthews got nine swings and misses on 61 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll bring an unappealing 5.97 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and an 82/24 K/BB ratio (72 1/3 innings) into Tuesday’s showdown against the Rangers in Arlington.

Matthews had a rough opening frame, giving up three runs on three hits, a walk, and a double steal of home. He kept the Angels off the board for three innings before running into more trouble in the fifth. Two hits and a walk brought a run in and knocked Matthews from the game at 97 pitches with five strikeouts. One more inherited runner would come in to score. The 25-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 4.93 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and an 80/22 K/BB ratio across 69 1/3 innings. He’ll take on the Yankees in Minnesota next Tuesday.

This was a different version of Matthews than we’ve otherwise seen this season. It was the first time he’s mixed all six of his pitches at least 10% of the time. He found success through depth too, as five of them forced multiple swings-and-misses and opened up plenty more options for him against left-handed batters specifically. He tried all six out at least twice in two-strike counts against lefties and kept them guessing all night. It was a welcome adjustment after some struggles since returning from injury and one that hopefully brings more success to close out the season. He’s scheduled for a two-start week coming up against the Angels and Diamondbacks.

The 25-year-old right-hander struck out three batters on the evening and in true Zebby Matthews fashion he did not issue a base on balls. The Padres scratched out a run against him in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Luis Arraez and they tacked on an unearned run on an error by Matt Wallner in the fourth inning. Matthews then returned for the seventh where he allowed a leadoff single before turning the ball over to the bullpen — and that run ultimately scored as well. Matthews got seven whiffs on 96 pitches on the evening, posting a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll bring a 5.06 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and a 70/18 K/BB ratio (58 2/3 innings) into a strong matchup against the White Sox on Thursday.

Matthews gave up eight hits, walked three and struck out four. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 5.30 ERA in 11 starts this year after posting a 6.69 ERA in nine starts last year. Matthews is building a resume he wishes he didn’t have. While the 110 strikeouts in 90 1/3 innings this year is a positive, he continues to give up nearly 2.00 home runs per nine innings in his MLB career. He’s lined up to face the Blue Jays on the road next week, which is a matchup fantasy managers will want to avoid.

Matthews was hurt by self-inflicted damage, as he issued four free passes while throwing just 51-of-92 pitches for strikes. This could have been much worse if not for four strikeouts and Matthews escaping a couple of jams. The 25-year-old will try and find the strike zone more consistently when he faces the White Sox on Friday.

Matthews isn’t Bailey Ober, but the two could have similar peaks as fantasy starters in posting fine WHIPs and strikeout rates while lagging behind in ERA because of the home run ball. Matthews has a 5.11 ERA right now, though his 57/11 K/BB in 44 innings is very impressive. He’ll face the Tigers at home this weekend.

The 25-year-old right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the evening while allowing just one base on balls. The only damage done against him came on an RBI double off the bat of Kerry Carpenter in the third inning. Matthews generated 12 swings and misses on 86 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine performance as he carries a 5.17 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 48/10 K/BB ratio (38 1/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Yankees in New York on Monday.

Matthews struck out four and walked none, but he gave up eight hits. Three of the runs came in the fifth. Harrison Bader got caught in between diving or not on a liner he might have caught, and it wound up being a two-run single to knock Matthews out of the game. The runner from first then came around to score off Justin Topa. Matthews still seems like a decent bet going forward, but with the Twins set to sell, wins could be tough to come by the rest of the way. He’ll make his next start in Detroit.

Matthews did not pitch well against the Rockies on Sunday, but he was outstanding in his second start back from the injured list. The 25-year-old initiated 12 swings and misses among his 81 pitches, and he didn’t walk anyone. It wasn’t overpowering, but this was the version of Mathews fantasy managers were hoping to see at the highest level after his breakout season in the minors in 2024. If the rotation order stays the same, he’ll face the Red Sox on Wednesday in Boston.

Four innings of five-run baseball isn’t ideal against anyone. Against the Rockies, it’s disappointing; especially for those who took a chance on him as a streamer based on, well, you know. Matthews did strike out six, but the command wasn’t good enough as seen in eight hits allowed; including a three-run homer. Matthews still has long-term upside, but he’s tough to trust in redraft leagues.

Matthews returns to start Saturday’s contest against the Rockies at high-octane Coors Field following a six-week absence due to a shoulder strain. It’s not an ideal spot for fantasy purposes, but the 25-year-old top prospect is worthy of a speculative roster spot, even in shallow mixed leagues, based on his strikeout upside after adding some additional velocity last offseason. The results haven’t quite been there this season from a run-prevention standpoint in the big leagues with a lackluster 5.21 ERA through five starts. However, a strong 3.08 FIP and 30 percent strikeout rate suggest his future is extremely bright.

The 25-year-old allowed one hit and struck out nine without walking a batter. He threw 38 of his 56 pitches for strikes and induced 15 whiffs in his four innings. Matthews averaged 97.4 mph on his four-seam fastball and touched 99 mph on one. There’s a good chance that he could return to the Twins’ rotation immediately following the All-Star break. It’s time to stash him if he’s still available in deeper fantasy leagues.

Matthews is working his way back from a shoulder strain that put him on the injured list back in early June. The 25-year-old pitching prospect showed some flashes of immense fantasy upside earlier this year, but the results never quite materialized once he got back to the big leagues. He’s an intriguing stash candidate in deeper mixed leagues heading toward the final two months of the year.

Matthews is getting close to heading out on a rehab assignment as he continues to make steady progress with his throwing program. The 25-year-old pitching prospect has been out since June 8 recovering from a shoulder strain. He’ll need a handful of minor league outings before he rejoins Minnesota’s rotation mix, but he’s on track to potentially make it back before the end of July.

It was Matthews’ first bullpen session since landing on the IL with a shoulder strain on June 8. He may need one more before heading out on a rehab assignment. The Twins still hope that he can return at some point in July, but we’ll have a better idea of when once he’s cleared for a rehab assignment.

Shoulder issues tend to lead to lengthy absences for pitchers, regardless of the severity, so fantasy managers shouldn’t anticipate Matthews returning to Minnesota’s rotation until the second half. There should be a more definitive return timetable once he’s cleared to resume throwing in a few weeks, depending on how much time he’ll require to ramp up his throwing program.

Not great. Matthews heads to the injured list after a strong five-inning outing earlier this week against the Athletics. He was slated to take the ball for Tuesday’s series opener against the Rangers. It’ll likely be Simeon Woods Richardson returning to the big leagues to take his rotation spot. The 25-year-old top pitching prospect has struggled to an inflated 5.21 ERA across 19 innings (four starts) since being promoted back in mid-May. However, a quick glance under the hood reveals a strong 3.07 FIP and 25/8 K/BB ratio. No word yet on how much time Matthews will miss, but shoulder issues can be complicated matters. Fantasy managers should anticipate a multi-week absence, even in a best-case scenario.

Matthews did walk three, but he was able to work around those free passes with four strikeouts and just four hits allowed. It’s worth noting that Matthews went seven innings against the Mariners while holding Seattle scoreless over the final six innings, so that’s 11 innings of one-run baseball for the talented right-hander. Matthews will try to keep the good run going against the Rangers next week.

All of the damage done by the Mariners off Matthews came in the first inning. Cal Raleigh hit a three-run homer, and Randy Arozarena followed with a solo shot. After that Matthews was able to completely silence the Mariner bats, and he was able to whiff seven while issuing just one free pass. The overall line doesn’t look great, but this was a nice reminder of the type of talent Matthews does possess in his right arm. He’ll get a chance to build on this outing against the Athletics next week.

Three singles and a walk produced the two runs in the third. Matthews allowed just two other hits, both of which were singles, and walked no one else, but the Twins declined to send him back out for the fifth at 81 pitches. His nine strikeouts were a new high for him through 11 big-league starts. Matthews still comes recommended in mixed leagues, even though his first two outings have been a mixed bag. He’ll pitch in Seattle next week.

Three of the runs scored in the third, when Matthews struck out the first two batters he faced, walked the next three and then surrendered two singles. Matthews gave up five hits in all despite allowing just one hard-hit ball; Christian Yelich’s 108-mph single in the second was the only thing hit harder than 92 mph against him today. Obviously, this wasn’t the kind of showing those who picked up Matthews were hoping for, but he won’t typically have trouble with walks (two of three he issued today had missed calls) and he wasn’t hit hard at all. He’ll be worth using against the Royals next weekend.

It’s happening. Matthews’ spring training velocity uptick, which included adding nearly two miles per-hour to his four-seam fastball, has translated to stellar numbers at the Triple-A level this season, including a sparkling 1.93 ERA and 28.1 percent strikeout rate over 32 2/3 innings (seven starts). The 24-year-old top pitching prospect’s pinpoint control remains firmly intact and the extra sizzle on his fastball gives him a real shot at sustained success at the highest level. He doesn’t project as a potential fantasy ace with sky-high strikeout potential, but he should miss enough bats and provide help in the ratio departments to make a significant impact for fantasy purposes. He’s worthy of a speculative roster spot in all fantasy formats when he takes the ball on Sunday against the Brewers for his season debut.

Matthews struck out five, walked two, and allowed a solo home run to Will Brennan. It was the second straight inefficient start for Matthews, who still has a 2.30 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season. His schedule aligns with Chris Paddack’s schedule, so if the Twins ever do decide to move on from Paddack in their rotation, sliding Matthews into his spot would make sense.
