Ozuna, 35, will get a breather with Ryan O’Hearn operating as the designated hitter and Jake Mangum in left. Ozuna has struggled considerably in his first season with the Pirates with an OPS of just .487. We’ve seen him get off to slow starts only to finish with strong campaigns in the past, however.

It was his first of the year and a towering blast that went deep into the left field stands off Foster Griffin. Ozuna started the year off ice cold, hitting .051 in his first 10 games of the season. But he’s now hit in four straight games and is trying to bash his way back into the deep league conversation.

Ozuna had started the last three games at designated hitter, but he is not a full-time player for the Pirates right now, while he’s off to a 3-for-43 start to the season. Bryan Reynolds will DH at bat third, while Jake Mangum will start in left field and bat eighth. Ozuna’s bat speed is up from last season, but he’s not hitting the ball hard or pulling the ball much right now. He doesn’t need to be rostered in most fantasy formats.

The veteran is struggling to start the season, with his hard contact rates among the lowest he’s posted in his career. Obviously, the Pirates are going to want his bat in the lineup, considering the contract they signed him to this off-season, so they’re likely treating this as a mini reset. Ryan O’Hearn is at DH, with Nick Yorke starting at third base.

It’s largely just been popups from Ozuna so far. His launch angles on his two flies tonight were 52 and 55 degrees. He has only two hard-hit balls and none of his nine balls to the outfield have traveled more than 315 feet. The Pirates paid him too much this winter to give up on him quickly, but the early returns are simply bad. Even in spring training, he managed just one barrel in 44 at-bats.

Ozuna’s seventh-inning blast came against Orioles reliever Yaromil Hiraldo and traveled 400 feet to left-center field, according to Statcast. The 35-year-old veteran is a one-dimensional slugger at this advanced stage of his career but he’s going to open the year batting in the heart of a respectable Pirates lineup. He’ll be a cheap power source in deeper mixed leagues but expecting anything beyond that might be unrealistic.

The deal, which was first reported on Monday morning, is official now that the 35-year-old slugger has passed his physical. Ozuna will earn $10.5 million in 2025 and the deal includes a $16 million mutual option with a $1.5 million buyout for 2026. He should function as the Pirates’ regular designated hitter which will push Ryan O’Hearn to a corner outfield spot.

Ozuna also drew a pair of walks. The 34-year-old has not been able to come close to matching his impressive numbers over the last two campaigns, but he is now up to 21 homers and 67 RBI over 142 games.

Incredibly, it’s Ozuna’s first three-hit game since May 22, though the fact that he’s walked 90 times does factor in there. Still, Ozuna had been slumping big-time of late. He had as many RBI today as he did in previous 27 games combined, and he still hasn’t homered since hitting his 20th on Aug. 13.

This was a grind-it-out game on both sides where runs were tough to come by. Ozuna scored each of the Braves runs after hitting his two doubles and is trying to get back into a groove after playing sporadically over the last few weeks.

The Sean Murphy injury cleared the way for Ozuna to finish the season as the Braves’ everyday DH, but he needs to hit. Alas, he’s at just .130/.250/.185 with two RBI in his last 18 games. The Braves have Jake Fraley in the outfield and Ronald Acuña Jr. DHing tonight.

It’s the third time in the last five games that the 34-year-old slugger has found himself back on the bench for the Braves. Ronald Acuna Jr. will serve as the team’s designated hitter on Sunday while Eli White will draw a start in right field and will bat sixth against Phillies’ left-hander Jesus Luzardo.

The team is giving Ronald Acuña Jr. a partial day off by using him at DH. Jake Fraley, who probably wishes he was picked up by another team, is making his first start (and appearance of any kind) since being claimed off waivers eight days ago.

Ozuna has been an everyday player of late, but a lengthy slump from him could result in the Braves going back to using Drake Baldwin and Sean Murphy simultaneously. Ozuna is 4-for-20 with just that one RBI tonight in his last six games.

That’s three homers in two games and six in 12 games for Ozuna, who is back serving as the Braves’ primary DH after taking a backseat to the team’s catcher tandem prior to the trade deadline. His current .796 OPS is his high mark since late June.

Ozuna had a big day at the plate after sitting out the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader. He got the start at designated hitter for the second game and hit a pair of homers, driving in four runs. The 34-year-old slugger is up to 18 homers with 53 RBI while slashing .239/.367/.419 across 442 plate appearances.

Ozuna did his damage in the first inning of this one, belting a 404-foot (99.0 mph EV) solo shot off of Carlos Carrasco that increased the Braves’ early lead to 2-0. The 34-year-old slugger also singled twice in the ballgame, finishing the night 3-for-4. He’s slowly bringing his season slash back to respectability, now hitting .239/.370/.406 with the aforementioned 16 long balls and 49 RBI.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker is rolling with an ice-cold Sean Murphy for the second straight contest at DH, with Ozuna on the bench. The 34-year-old slugger isn’t hitting for average at all, but he does have a pair of round-trippers in his last seven games.

Ozuna figures to mostly play against lefties after going untraded Thursday, but his nice game last night, when he singled in a run, walked three times and plated the go-ahead run in the 10th with a sac fly, has him in there against righty Brady Singer today. Sean Murphy is taking a seat after starting over Drake Baldwin against lefties the last two days. If Ozuna gets hot, it’d be bad news for both Braves catchers.

The 34-year-old slugger led off the fourth inning with a single and scored the Braves’ first run on an RBI knock off the bat of Michael Harris II. He then started the sixth with a walk before scoring on an error. Ozuna also walked and scored during the Braves’ eight-run uprising in the eighth inning. He then played the role of hero in the 10th, smacking a go-ahead sacrifice fly that proved to be the difference. On the season, he’s slashing a disappointing .235/.365/.399 with 15 homers and 48 RBI.

Ozuna drew a two-out walk off of Seth Lugo in the fourth inning but was left stranded at first base. He then belted a 399-foot (105.4 mph EV) two-run shot on a first-pitch curveball from Seth Lugo that pulled the Braves to within a run at 4-3. That would be as close as they would get. He then chipped in an RBI single in the seventh inning. With his two-hit effort, the 34-year-old slugger is now hitting .236/.364/.403 with 15 homers and 47 RBI.

Sean Murphy is at DH and batting sixth on Tuesday night at Truist Park. Ozuna has been on Atlanta’s bench for six of their last eight games as his ongoing struggles continue. The 34-year-old veteran, who has been playing through a hip issue this season, figures to be on the move at the trade deadline, but that isn’t a lock.

Ozuna sat out two of the Braves’ final three games heading into the All-Star break and he finds himself right back on the pine once again on Friday evening. The Braves will once again use it as a way to get both catchers into their lineup with Sean Murphy functioning as the team’s designated hitter and batting fifth against Ian Hamilton and the Yankees.

Ozuna, who has been the subject of trade rumors recently, closes out a disappointing first half with two homers in his final three games. He finishes batting .239/.364/.396 with 13 homers and 42 RBI through 89 games. The 34-year-old veteran slugger deserves some credit for playing through a lingering hip issue, which appears to have adversely impacted his power production. It’ll be interesting to see if the impending free agent attracts any attention at the upcoming trade deadline. It’ll be Sean Murphy at DH on Sunday afternoon against St. Louis.

Ozuna, who didn’t play Friday, has two homers in three games after going 21 games without one. It doesn’t seem like his hip is going to allow him to be his usual self during the second half, but the four days off will probably do him some good.

It’s strange to see Ozuna on the pine against an opposing left-hander in Matthew Liberatore, but that’s where we are at right now with the slumping 34-year-old slugger. Sean Murphy will function as the team’s designated hitter on Friday night and will bat cleanup for the Braves.

Ozuna takes a seat after an 0-for-4 performance out of the sixth spot in Atlanta’s lineup on Saturday left him hitting .159 (18-for-113) with one homer and 32 strikeouts over his last 30 games. He’s just 3-for-24 over his last seven games. The 34-year-old veteran has been playing through a hip tear for most of this season, but has insisted that it isn’t impacting his performance. We’re not convinced. It’ll be rookie sensation Drake Baldwin taking over at DH and batting sixth on Sunday morning in his place.

Ozuna, who has been playing through a hip tear throughout most of this season, has been mired in an extended tailspin at the dish, hitting .177 (20-for-113) with only two homers in his last 30 games. He’s been dropped to the lower portion of Atlanta’s lineup for the second straight game with Jurickson Profar getting looks in the cleanup spot.

Ozuna, who hadn’t struck out more than twice in a game this season previously, fanned three times against Ranger Suárez and once versus Orion Kerkering. He’s hitting .175 with just one homer in his last 25 games, which makes it worth wondering if his hip injury is affecting him. He’s still doing fine from an exit velocity and xwOBA standpoint, though.
