The Padres were looking to add length and depth to their lineup on Friday and picked up both a right-handed and a left-handed bat in the same deal with the Orioles. O’Hearn, 32, was slashing a solid .282/.374/.463 with 13 homers, 43 RBI and three stolen bases in 361 plate appearances with the O’s. He’ll be a staple in the middle of the Padres’ lineup against right-handed pitching.

Nothing yet on what the Orioles will receive in the return package for a pair of their most tradeable deadline assets. O’Hearn and Laureano should help to fortify the Padres’ lineup and provide defensive upgrades over the final two months of the season.

This one makes sense, as the Rangers are right in the thick of contention but have gotten very little production out of the designated hitter spot. O’Hearn could help in that regard as one of the best bats left on the market. Plenty of teams have shown interest in the 32-year-old prior to the deadline, but Texas should be considered among the favorites, and it’d be a solid landing spot from a fantasy perspective.

It seems overwhelming likely that this was O’Hearn’s final game as a member of the Orioles, and he ends his time on a positive note. Well, outside of the fact Baltimore lost, of course. His two-run homer gives him 13 on the season, and it’ll be interesting to see what uniform here’s wearing in August with numerous suitors interested in his left-handed bat.

O’Hearn takes a seat on Wednesday night with southpaw David Peterson drawing the starting assignment for New York. It’ll be Coby Mayo at first base with Jackson Holliday getting a break from the field at DH in his place. The 31-year-old first-time All-Star has cooled off recently following a blistering-hot start to the season, hitting .204 (20-for-29) with only two homers and 11 RBI over his last 30 games.

Passan gives O’Hearn an 85 percent chance to be traded at the deadline, which was the highest of any player. Baltimore has seemingly fallen out of the playoff race, while O’Hearn is on pace for a career high in homers while also hitting over .300. He could be a great platoon bat for a contender at the deadline, and Passan lists the Mariners, Red Sox, Giants, and Rangers as possible destinations.

O’Hearn sat out a pair of contests over the weekend with left ankle soreness. The 31-year-old slugger is back at first base and batting fifth on Monday evening with rookie Coby Mayo getting the night off.

O’Hearn will get another day off after being scratched from Saturday’s lineup with left ankle soreness. It’ll be Gunnar Henderson getting a break from the field with a turn at DH on Sunday afternoon in his place.

The issue isn’t believed to be major and the 31-year-old slugger is considered day-to-day. Dylan Carlson will step in the Orioles’ lineup to replace him and will bat eighth against Angels’ southpaw Tyler Anderson on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore.

There were three extra-base hits in the 2-0 game, and O’Hearn was responsible for two of them, though he did have a GIDP in between. He’s up to 10 homers, and he currently ranks eighth in the AL with his .893 OPS.

The 27-year-old Ward is hitting .323/.400/.576 with 12 homers in his third season in Triple-A. There was some talk about him getting plucked in the Rule 5 draft last December, but it didn’t materialize. The Dodgers have no room for him and probably would be open to sending him elsewhere if someone wanted to give him a shot at first base or an outfield corner.

O’Hearn hit a 396-foot shot off of reliever Greg Weissert for his eighth home run of the season, but he only has 18 RBI to show for that. That number should tick up as Baltimore’s offense gets better because O’Hearn hits in the middle of the lineup against right-handed pitchers, but he will sit against lefties, which makes him hard to use outside of daily moves formats.

The homer was O’Hearn’s second in nine games against his longtime organization. He probably shouldn’t have much bad blood, though. The Royals obviously had no idea how to unlock his talent, but they also kept him around on a major league salary for three years longer than his play justified. O’Hearn has excelled in his platoon role this year, batting .303/.384/.579 in 86 plate appearances.

O’Hearn’s third-inning blast against Yankees starter Will Warren gave Baltimore a commanding three-run advantage, which they wouldn’t relinquish. The 31-year-old slugger has gone deep five times this season and is hitting .300 (21-for-70) through 21 games.

O’Hearn delivered a game-tying RBI single off of MacKenzie Gore in the fifth inning, then raced around to score with the go-ahead run on an RBI knock from Cedric Mullins. The 31-year-old struck out in each of his other two plate appearances in the ballgame. He’s having another solid season for the Orioles so far, slashing a healthy .283/.358/.483 with three homers, seven RBI and one stolen base.

The homer was hit 393 feet, but since it was hit just to the right of dead center, it would have been out of only six ballparks, according to Statcast. It was the third homer of the year for O’Hearn, who is now batting an impressive .326/.404/.587 in 52 plate appearances. It’s unclear what he’d have to do in order to exit his platoon role. His fine showing last year wasn’t enough; he started just three games against southpaws in 2024. He’s yet to be included in the lineup against a lefty this season.
