Rangers designated OF Kevin Pillar for assignment.

Pillar has been removed from Texas’ 40-man roster to clear a spot for prospect Alejandro Osuna. The 36-year-old veteran figures to pass through waivers unclaimed and will likely wind up electing free agency.

Rangers activated OF Kevin Pillar from the 10-day injured list.

Pillar is in right field and batting eighth on Sunday afternoon in his return following a two-week absence due to a lower back strain. The 36-year-old journeyman figures to play on a semi-regular basis while former top prospect Evan Carter is on the shelf recovering from a quad strain.

Rangers placed OF Kevin Pillar on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 4, with a lower back strain.

Pillar has been battling a lingering back issue the last few weeks and the Rangers are going to give him some extra time off to put the issue to bed. He’ll likely return in a couple weeks to his role as a reserve outfielder.

    Recap

Kevin Pillar went 2-for-4 with a double against the Angels on Tuesday.

Pillar doubled in the second inning, then singled in the eighth on an infield hit. A runner would score on his base hit on an error, so he wasn’t credited with the RBI. The 36-year-old outfielder has helped fill in for Wyatt Langford in left field, going 7-for-20 with four runs scored.
