The procedural move frees up a spot on Texas’ 40-man roster for the club to claim righty Dom Hamel off waivers from the Orioles. Semien was shut down for the rest of the regular season earlier this week once the Rangers were officially eliminated from playoff contention. The 35-year-old second baseman suffered a season-ending fractured foot back in late August.

It sounds like the door is slightly ajar that Semien could make it back to Texas before the regular season wraps up. The 34-year-old second baseman is three and a half weeks removed from fracturing his left foot, which was believed to be a season-ending injury. He still has some hurdles to clear, but there’s a chance he makes it back for the final week.

It’s possible that Semien could return for the playoffs, if the Rangers make a late postseason push, but that doesn’t appear likely at the moment. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues can go ahead and cut bait with the 34-year-old second baseman.

The Rangers had been hopeful that they could wait the injury out, but they’ll take a cautious approach and sit him down for a couple of weeks just to make sure that it heals properly. Adolis García was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Saturday.

Semien remains in a walking boot and is unavailable for Saturday’s contest. The 34-year-old ironman told reporters he’ll undergo another battery of tests this weekend since the pain hasn’t subsided since fouling a ball off his left foot during Thursday’s game. There should be an update on his status before the weekend wraps up, but it’s starting to feel like a potential injured list situation.

Semien was pulled from Thursday’s contest after fouling a ball off of his left foot. The good news, is that he doesn’t appear to be dealing with any fractures and didn’t land on the injured list on Friday. He’s considered day-to-day. Ezequiel Duran will start in his place at second base on Friday evening and will bat eighth against Guardians’ right-hander Slade Cecconi.

Semien fouled a ball off his left foot during his lone at-bat of the contest. The 34-year-old veteran second baseman will likley head for precautionary X-rays to rule out any fractures. There should be an update on his status following the contest.

Semien was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the third inning of Thursday’s series finale. The hope here for the Rangers and fantasy managers is that his exit is precautionary in nature since he’s been battling a lingering wrist issue since last week. He did foul a ball off his foot during his lone at-bat of the contest. There should be an update on his status shortly.

Semien had a day off yesterday to deal with some wrist inflammation, and maybe that did the trick. The veteran is now up to 15 home runs and 61 RBI on the season, and really needed a strong game after a brutal stretch to begin the second half of the season. While it’s nice to see the performance today, you have to wonder how much the wrist has been affecting him over the last six weeks.

Semien is back at second base and batting sixth following a one-game absence due to wrist inflammation. The 34-year-old ironman underwent X-rays earlier this weekend that didn’t reveal any fractures. It sounds like he isn’t dealing with a significant issue since he’s already back in the lineup.

Semien is still dealing with swelling, but it’s a positive sign that there’s no apparent structural damage. The infielder may still need to miss time until the soreness and swelling subside.

Semien woke up with some lingering wrist soreness after taking a pitch off the wrist during Friday’s series opener against Toronto. He also launched his 14th home run of the season during that contest. There should be an update on the 34-year-old veteran’s status at some point this weekend. He’s been a true ironman throughout his career, so there’s some cause for concern if he’s not feeling well enough to be out there.

Semien doubled and singled twice. The stolen base gives the veteran All-Star 11 on the season. Semien has been a fantasy disappointment in 2025 with a .231 average and .675 OPS, but there’s two months left to make an impact. He certainly has a track record of doing just that despite his struggles over the first two-thirds of the season.

Semien had gone hitless in four straight games going into Tuesday’s contest. He broke that hitless streak with a solo homer off Sean Newcomb in the sixth inning to give the Rangers the lead. It was the 13th home run of the season for the 34-year-old second baseman. He’s hitting .230/.309/.370 with 49 runs scored, 50 RBI, and eight steals across 421 plate appearances.

Semien’s home run was No. 12 on the season for him. He hit a solo shot off Kaleb Ort in the eighth inning. Semien is hitting just .239 with a .695 OPS and 49 RBI, but his career history suggests the 34-year-old is due for better numbers in the second half of the year.

All four hits were singles for Semien. The 34-year-old singled up the middle in the third to make it 9-0, and improve his RBI total to 47. Semien is now slashing .239/.318/.366, and his previous success — emphasis on success — suggests he’ll be considerably better than that over the break. That’s the hope, anyway.

Semien hit a two-run homer to give the Rangers’ an 8-6 lead. The 34-year-old also drove in runs on a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice. Semien had been awful in seven July games prior to Wednesday’s showing with a .148 average and .296 slugging percentage, so the hope is this is the start of a hot run for a player who has had plenty in his career.

Semien started the scoring with a two-run double in the third inning. Those would be the only runs the Rangers scored as they ultimately lost in extra-innings to the Padres 3-2. Semien is just one of many Rangers having a down offensive season. The 34-year-old infielder is hitting .238 with a .683 OPS and 42 RBI on the year.

It feels like Semien has finally turned a corner. With this home run, he now has five since the beginning of June and a 1.012 OPS over his last 30 games. While second base is a complete wasteland at the moment, now is the time to trust Semien once again.

Semien drew a walk in the third inning and ultimately scored on a two-out RBI single by Jonah Heim. He then singled in the sixth, swiped second base and scored on a two-run knock by Adolis Garcia. It’s worth noting this was the fourth consecutive extra-inning game for the Rangers, and the fifth time they’ve played past the ninth in their last six. Weird. Semien also reached twice via walk for one of his best games of the 2025 campaign. It’s a bit of faint praise, as the 34-year-old has disappointed in 2025 with a .237/.315/.355 slash, eight homers and 37 runs driven in.

Semien came up to the plate in the bottom of the 10th with one out and the bases loaded. His walkoff single off Andres Munoz sealed a 3-2 victory for the Rangers. The 34-year-old second baseman’s overall production has fallen off a cliff this year as he’s on pace for his worst season in years.

Semien’s run-scoring double off Royals veteran starter Michael Wacha represented the lone extra-base hit for Texas in a low-scoring affair at Globe Life Field. The 34-year-old second baseman has shaken off a glacial start to the season at the dish, hitting .304 (31-for-102) with four homers, 14 RBI and five steals over his last 30 games.

Semien drove in a run with a sacrifice fly off of Aaron Civale in the fifth inning that would prove to be the difference in the ballgame. He also doubled with two outs in the seventh inning but was left stranded there. We’re finally seeing some genuine signs of life from Semien. He smoked his homer 104.5 mph and an estimated 424 feet. Four of his seven long balls this season have come in his last 11 games and he sneakily has an .820 OPS over his last 30 games. Perhaps the reports of his demise were overblown.

After dropping to the bottom of the order for a week, Semien has moved back up to the heart of the lineup as he warms up at the dish. Batting cleanup on Saturday against the Nationals, he drove in three of the team’s five runs. Semien doubled to bring home two runs in the first inning, one scoring on an error, then doubled again in the eighth to plate two more. The 34-year-old second baseman has collected multiple hits in four of his last eight games. Semien gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead in the fifth with his first homer of the game, and extended that lead to 3-1 on a blast that gave him six on the season. After a disastrous start to the season, Semien has been better in June — and much more inline with his career — and his .210/.298/.308 slash line should continue to climb over the summer months.

Hello Marcus Semien! Welcome to the 2025 season! Semien raised his batting average by 20 points and his OPS by over 40 points in what was his first four-hit game since May 7th of last season. He’d been dropped to eighth in the order and it looked like father time had caught up with him. Maybe this game gets him going, maybe it doesn’t, but it looked like a 100 pound weight was lifted off his shoulders as he rounded the bases in the seventh inning to a huge ovation from the home crowd.

Semien came through with a big day after dropping to fifth in the lineup for the first time as a Ranger amid his struggles. He plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, then drew a walk in the third and went yard for a three-run shot in the fifth. It was his second home run of the season. The 34-year-old second baseman is hitting .160/.231/.247 with six runs scored and ten RBI across 91 plate appearances.
