Lively will miss a fourth straight game with a sprained right knee, and he does not have a clearly-defined timeline for his return. Injured during the first week of the preseason, Gafford made his season debut on Saturday. He was restricted to 15-18 minutes, and the Mavericks center started and played 17. Dwight Powell (five points, six rebounds and one assist) played 19 minutes off the bench, which may be the split for the Mavericks’ centers for the next few games. Gafford’s fantasy value moving forward will depend on how his ankle responds following games, and when Dereck Lively II (knee) and Anthony Davis (calf) are healthy enough to play. The Mavericks have a four-game Week 3 without a back-to-back, which may bode well for Gafford’s availability.

Christie has now reached double figures in four straight games, the first time he’s done that since his first seven games as a Maverick in February. Rostered in just five percent of Yahoo! leagues, he’s providing solid late-round value in 12-team formats. Christie isn’t a must-roster player, but Dallas’ four-game Week 3 makes him a low-risk player, especially with Anthony Davis (calf) expected to miss a few more weeks.

While Flagg’s numbers were solid, he struggled at times to deal with Detroit’s physicality. He’s shooting just 37.3 percent from the field thus far, but all isn’t lost for the rookie. Flagg is ranked just outside the top-100 in nine-cat formats, thanks to solid averages across the board and a low turnover number (1.8 per game). And it hasn’t helped that the Mavericks have struggled with injuries, most notably Anthony Davis. Flagg will be fine, but fantasy managers will have to find a way to compensate for his low field-goal percentage for a bit.

Russell has hit double figures in three of his last four games, surpassing 20 points twice. Saturday’s performance was the best of the bunch, with the 31 points being the most he’s scored in a game since March 8, 2024, as a member of the Lakers (44 vs. Milwaukee). D’Lo was expected by many to begin the season as a starter, but Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd’s decision to toss the keys to Cooper Flagg may have caught the veteran by surprise. He’s recently looked more comfortable in his role, giving Dallas needed production off the bench as they play without Anthony Davis. The Mavericks play four games during Week 3, starting with the Rockets on Monday.

Gafford is available after missing more than a month with an ankle injury suffered during the first week of the preseason. However, while he is in the starting lineup, Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said during his pregame availability that Gafford will be limited to 15-18 minutes. Gafford is still yet to appear in a game this year due to his ankle injury. While it’s unclear how many minutes he could play in his season debut, the 27-year-old big man is going to be active tonight and we can’t say the same about Anthony Davis (calf) and Dereck Lively II (knee). There’s certainly the opportunity for Gafford to play heavy minutes with the Mavericks shorthanded.

Davis left Wednesday’s win over the Pacers during the first quarter with what was described at the time as lower left leg soreness. He has since been diagnosed with a low-grade left calf strain and will miss at least two games: Saturday vs. Detroit in Mexico City and Monday at Houston. With Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford also dealing with injuries, the Mavericks must rely on a combination of Dwight Powell and smaller lineups that don’t include a legitimate center. After playing eight minutes or less in Dallas’ first three games, Powell picked up the dreaded DNP-CD in Monday’s loss to the Thunder. However, Powell’s name was called with Anthony Davis (leg) joining Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford on the sideline during the first quarter of Wednesday’s game. And the veteran answered, recording season-highs in points, rebounds and blocked shots. He only attempted six shots, but a 10-of-12 night at the foul line boosted Powell’s point total. With the Mavericks currently without Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford, they’ve needed Washington to step up defensively and on the glass. He’s grabbed at least nine rebounds in three of his last four, including a season-high 11 on Wednesday. Also, the Mavericks lost Anthony Davis (leg) during the first quarter, impacting Washington’s role and value. While he’s ranked well outside the top-150 in nine-cat formats, that’s due to an average of 3.0 turnovers per game. After struggling mightily in Monday’s loss to the Thunder, Flagg was considerably better against the Pacers. Not only did he shoot over 50 percent from the field, but the first overall pick also recorded his second double-double. All that was missing from Flagg’s final stat line was a steal, and he did not attempt a three-pointer after going 0-of-3 on Monday.
