According to Irving’s agent, “this is about Kyrie being 1000% when he comes back and giving himself the best chance to chase a championship next season.” Dallas is near the bottom of the Western Conference standings, and the team has no incentive to rush Irving back before he’s fully healthy. Fantasy managers holding out hope for an end-of-season return can finally drop him and free up a valuable IL spot.

Dončić missed the Lakers’ last four games before the All-Star break, but he went through a rigorous workout ahead of Thursday’s win over the Mavericks. He’s come out of that session in good condition and will be available for a short stint on Sunday. With the new format for the All-Star Game, the question is whether he’ll play in just one of the potentially three short games for Team World. At the very least, Dončić’s participation on Sunday should ensure that he’s available for the Lakers’ first game after the break, February 20 against the Clippers, provided he does not aggravate the hamstring injury.

After coming off the bench in his first two appearances as a Laker, Kennard moved into the starting lineup on Tuesday due to multiple absences. He shot the ball well and dished out five assists, but fantasy managers likely hoped for greater shot volume from the guard. Making his first start as an NBA player, Bufkin started well on Tuesday. He shot 2-of-4 from the field in the first quarter and dished out an assist. Unfortunately, the former first-round pick’s production tailed off, an unsurprising development, given Bufkin’s limited in-game experience. Moved into the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game, Jones appeared to be in a good spot to offer solid fantasy value. Unfortunately, things did not play out that way for the guard in his first start as a Maverick. Jones played 15 minutes, with Naji Marshall replacing him in the lineup to begin the third quarter. Flagg’s frequent trips to the foul line gave his point total a nice boost, but overall, this was a modest night for the rookie. While his run of games with at least 32 points ended at four in Saturday’s loss to the Spurs, he’s scored 27 or more in five of his last six. Given the constant changes of the actual point guards in the Mavericks’ rotation, head coach Jason Kidd may decide to simply put the ball in Flagg’s hands even more after the All-Star break. And fantasy managers may favor that approach.

That didn’t prevent Naji from having one of his most productive nights of the season, recording his second 30-point stat line in three games and fourth of the season. Christie led three Mavericks starters in double figures, and he’s scored at least ten points in five consecutive games. The issue for him recently, even with the double-digit points streak, has been that Christie has made just 38.4 percent of his shots from the field over the past two weeks. Despite coming off the bench, he played 24 minutes, six more than starter Daniel Gafford (nine points, four rebounds and two assists), who was in foul trouble for most of the night. Making his first appearance since being traded to Dallas, Jones played 17 minutes on Saturday. While the assist production was excellent, he’s in a challenging spot as far as fantasy relevance is concerned. The basketball will be in Cooper Flagg’s (14/4/4 with two three-pointers) hands a lot as he continues to develop as a pro.
