While Coward’s final stat line lacked defensive stats, the rookie did record his second double-double in three games and fifth of the season. Given how well he began the season, most fantasy managers understood that Coward’s production would cool down eventually. Over the past two weeks, he’s ranked just outside the top-200 in fantasy value. However, Coward still offers a higher ceiling than Jaylen Wells, who finished Friday’s defeat with 19 points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal and two three-pointers.

Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo decided to go with Aldama to fill in for the injured Zach Edey on Friday, and his faith was rewarded. After scoring 22 points in Sunday’s win over the Trail Blazers, the 7-footer hit that number again on Friday. Aldama finished with a complete stat line, and the production may be enough to keep him in the starting lineup moving forward. Jock Landale, who filled in for Edey to begin the season, played 27 minutes off the bench. He finished with eight points, nine rebounds, one assist, one block and two three-pointers.

With Ja Morant back in the fold, how the point guard rotation would shake out behind him was a point of interest for deep-league fantasy managers. Spencer played 25 minutes off the bench and enjoyed the best shooting night of his NBA career, as he made a career-high six three-pointers without a miss. Vince Williams Jr., who was the starter when Morant was out, played 15 minutes and went scoreless (0-of-4 FGs) with three rebounds and one blocked shot. The chances of Spencer consistently shooting as well as he did on Friday are slim, but he still offers a higher ceiling than Williams when Morant is available.

Friday’s game was the first for Morant since November 15, so his playing time was restricted. However, that did not prevent the point guard from showing off his elite athleticism at various points, including an impressive chasedown block of a Keyonte George layup attempt during the first half. Morant finished with his fourth double-double of the season, which helps compensate for the low field-goal percentage. Memphis is done for Week 8 and will open Week 9 on Monday against the Clippers.

With Memphis playing Friday’s game without its best rebounder, Zach Edey, this was an excellent opportunity for Nurkić to put up a high number in the rebounds category. His 17 boards matched the veteran center’s season-high, and he finished with his sixth double-double. While Nurkić’s fantasy value is ranked outside the top-200 over the last two weeks, he’s a helpful option for managers needing rebounds. Add in the seven assists, and Friday’s was a good night to have Nurk on your roster.

Back in the lineup after sitting out Sunday’s blowout loss to the Thunder, Markkanen helped Utah end its five-game losing streak to the Grizzlies. After a slow start to the season in the rebound category, Markkanen has grabbed at least eight boards in five straight games. Averaging 8.4 rebounds per game, he has been a top-50 player in nine-cat formats over the past two weeks. Utah is finished with its Week 8 slate and opens a three-game Week 9 on Monday against the Mavericks.

In his last three games entering Friday, Love totaled 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the field. Simply put, no one outside of the Jazz locker room expected the veteran forward to be as productive as he was in Memphis. Love recorded a season-high point total and matched his previous high in three-pointers. As fun as it was to watch him put on an offensive clinic while also grabbing eight rebounds, one game does not make Love a player worth rostering in most fantasy leagues. Especially with the Jazz off until Monday.

George was rolling during the first half of Friday’s game, scoring 27 points. While a combination of improved defending from the Grizzlies and foul trouble conspired to keep the guard scoreless in the third quarter, he would finish with a career-high 39 points. Add in the assists, percentages and low turnover count (three), and this was an excellent night for George. The significant improvement that he’s made has lowered Isaiah Collier’s fantasy value, but the second-year guard did dish out eight assists in 24 minutes off the bench.

Markkanen is back in Utah’s starting lineup after an illness kept him out for the team’s recent loss to the Thunder. His return will give the Jazz an elite three-level scorer at the forward position and the team’s leader in points per game. Kyle Filipowski will head back to the bench to help Utah’s depth.

While Morant’s return from a strained calf is the most significant change to the Grizzlies’ starting lineup, it isn’t the only one. While Jock Landale has been the preferred choice in the past, Aldama will step in to fill the void left by the injured Zach Edey (ankle). Edey will be out for at least four weeks, so there’s still time for Landale to slide into the lineup. But this decision bodes well for Aldama’s fantasy value, which is capped when he comes off the bench.

Morant is officially available after missing ten games with a strained calf. His return affects Vince Williams Jr. and Cam Spencer the most, with the former heading back to the bench. Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo did not reveal a minutes restriction when he announced that Morant was available. Still, fantasy managers should anticipate the point guard not taking on his usual workload on Friday.

Morant is on track to return from a 10-game absence, but it’s unclear if he’ll face any restrictions after such a long time on the sideline. His return should mean fewer minutes for Vince Williams Jr. and Cam Spencer, but both players should be held until Morant’s health and usage are clarified.

Markkanen was held out of Sunday’s blowout loss to the Thunder, with Kyle Filipowski replacing him in the starting lineup. While he would remain in the rotation, Filipowski has a lower fantasy ceiling when Markkanen and starting center Jusuf Nurkić are available.

Morant was a full participant in Thursday’s practice and did not experience any issues. If he can play on Friday, Vince Williams Jr. would head to the bench. Morant’s return would also affect Cam Spencer, who has been more efficient than Williams recently.

Small suffered a turf toe injury in his left foot while playing for the Grizzlies’ G League affiliate in early November and has not played since. The updated timeline provided by the team gives him a shot at playing in early January. Whether Small’s availability affects fantasy basketball depends on the availability of Ja Morant, Ty Jerome and Scotty Pippen Jr. And with Vince Williams Jr. and Cam Spencer being the point guard rotation with those three out, Small is unlikely to get the opportunities needed to affect fantasy basketball.

Edey underwent surgery on his left ankle in June, which makes Thursday’s announcement especially concerning. The Grizzlies expect the 7-foot-4 center to make a full recovery, and they’ll take an “offloading and rehabilitation” approach before re-evaluating him in four weeks. Jock Landale began the season as the starting center and should return to that role, making him a worthwhile addition in deeper leagues. There should also be more minutes available to Santi Aldama, but Landale should be the primary target of fantasy managers.

Morant has missed 10 games with a calf injury after playing only six minutes on November 15th against the Cavaliers. It now seems like we have a good chance of seeing him back on the court on Friday. In his stead, Vince Williams Jr. has taken over the starting point guard role and had performed well before slowing of late. Cam Spencer has also begun to earn more minutes at Williams’ expense over the last week, but both players should see their minutes and usage take a hit when Morant returns.

Hitting double figures in points for the third time this season, Hendricks recorded his first career 20-point game on Sunday. With Lauri Markkanen (illness) being out, there were more opportunities available to the third-year forward despite his coming off the bench. Hendricks has not reached the point where he’s worth rostering in most fantasy leagues, but that could change as the season progresses, especially with the Jazz still rebuilding.

Filipowski, who has hit double figures in five straight games, achieved two firsts on Sunday. In addition to recording his first 20-point game, the second-year center finished with his first double-double of the season. With Lauri Markkanen and Jusuf Nurkić each missing a game, Filipowski has provided third-round fantasy value over the past week. While he can certainly be a “silly season” standout, Filipowski has the potential to provide added value well before the season reaches that point.

A double-digit scorer in three straight games, Clayton finished Sunday’s defeat with career-highs in points and assists. With Keyonte George (8/5/3/0/1) struggling and Isaiah Collier (one assist) only playing six minutes, it was Clayton’s show for most of the second half. The rookie guard had an encouraging effort, but it’s unlikely to mean much regarding his fantasy value in the short term. However, there may come a time later in the season when the Jazz look to feature Clayton more as the rebuild moves forward.

Aldama spearheaded an impressive effort from the Memphis reserves in this one as the Grizzlies got a staggering 69 bench point, including double-digit performances from Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Jock Landale and Cam Spencer, to power the club to their seventh win over their last nine games. Aldama’s unexpected offensive surge helped make up for the absence of scoring machine Ja Morant, who sat this one out with a lingering calf injury. The Grizzlies have just one game next week when they face the Jazz on Friday night.

Edey snapped out of his recent cold spell by recording his fifth double-double of the season, pulling down 10 boards in just 21 minutes before fouling out with just over six minutes left in a lopsided affair against the struggling Trail Blazers. The 23-year-old center is averaging 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.9 blocks through 11 games this season. He’s performing at a near-elite level for fantasy purposes when he’s on the floor.

Wells has been exceptional over the past two weeks, topping 15 points in six of his last seven games during that span, averaging 18.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.9 steals during that span. The 22-year-old guard continues to play big minutes with Ja Morant sidelined with a calf injury and should be rostered in most fantasy leagues at this juncture.

Initially questionable for Sunday’s game, Markkanen is officially out. His absence opens a spot in the starting lineup and significant usage, given his importance to the Jazz offense. Kyle Filipowski will move into the starting lineup alongside Jusuf Nurkić, raising his fantasy ceiling considerably. Also, look for Brice Sensabaugh and Taylor Hendricks to figure more prominently in the rotation.

Markkanen made the most of an overall poor effort from the Jazz on Friday. The 28-year-old power forward only played 26 minutes in the 34-point loss to the Knicks, but still managed to put up 18 points and grab nine rebounds. The Jazz have another difficult matchup with the Thunder to close out Week 7 on Sunday.

Edey’s night was unspectacular from a fantasy basketball perspective. He didn’t dominate in any singular category, but was solid enough across the board to finish with mediocre production. He played 29 minutes in the game, battled on both ends, and ultimately finished as the Grizzlies’ leader in blocks in the win. They’ll play Sunday against the Trail Blazers, where fantasy managers will hope for more production out of Edey.

Spencer was one of several Grizzlies to produce off the bench on Friday in the win. In 29 minutes, he led all Grizzlies in assists and relied heavily on the three-point shot to finish as one of the team’s top scorers on the evening. The second-year guard out of UConn continues to be one of the NBA’s more productive scorers off the bench in recent weeks. He’s now scored in double figures seven straight times and remains a key contributor to Memphis’ recent strong play.

Coward was dominant on Friday for the suddenly surging Grizzlies, who have won six of their last eight games. He used efficient scoring to tally his third 20-point outing of the season, but his most noteworthy contributions came on the glass, where he led all rebounders on the night en route to a new career-high. The rookie forward also tied a career-high in assists before finishing with his fourth double-double of the season. He continues to be a bright spot for the Grizzlies and should remain a productive player in fantasy leagues moving forward.
