Springer said after the game last night that he was fine, and the Blue Jays certainly didn’t want him sitting with a southpaw on the mound for the Yankees today.

It doesn’t sound like it’s a first for Scherzer as he deals with his thumb problem, and he expects to make his next start. Scherzer was pulled from Monday’s game against the Yankees after 71 pitches. He’d allowed two runs over five innings and struck out seven.

Bichette stepped on a loose baseball during batting practice on Monday and was scratched from the lineup with knee discomfort. Even though he remains sidelined today, the Blue Jays have maintained that he will not be sent for additional testing. However, they did call up Leo Jiménez to add extra depth in the infield, so it remains to be seen how long Bichette will actually be out for.

With Bo Bichette (knee) banged up, the Blue Jays needed an extra infielder, so Clase will head down to make room. Even though Clase was playing more often than Myles Straw, Straw has no minor league options left, which meant he had to remain on the roster. Clase is hitting .210/.288/.300 in 112 plate appearances this year with two home runs and three steals.

Anthony Seigler has no outfield experience, so the Brewers will be shorthanded there in dropping Cameron from the roster. Still, they obviously wanted some more offense, and they do have Blake Parker hopefully coming back before long. Cameron hit .195/.214/.293 with a 13/1 K/BB in 42 plate appearances.

Mike Trout still isn’t seeing any outfield time, so Soler, who missed two weeks with back inflammation, will have to contribute as a right fielder for now. He’s been quite the liability to this point, having hit .207/.280/.350 with about as many strikeouts (79) as total bases (83) in 265 plate appearances. LaMonte Wade Jr., who has been seeing most of the time in right field of late, will likely be more of a bench guy now.

The Angels optioned Scott Kingery on Monday, and no corresponding move has been announced yet. The Orange County Register’s Jeff Fletcher reported that Soler said over the weekend that he was very close to being ready, and he did travel with the team to Atlanta. That means Soler could be activated for this series; however, he’s slashing 207/.280/.350 with eight home runs, 26 RBI, and a 30 percent strikeout rate, so fantasy managers may want to see more production before adding him.
