The 25-year-old slugging backstop has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball during that span, batting .350 (21-for-60) with seven round-trippers and 15 RBI over 15 contests. It’ll be rookie Braxton Fulford handling the catching duties on Wednesday night at Nationals Park.

Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer told reporters afterwards that he was forced to take Estrada out of the one-sided contest in the seventh inning because he couldn’t hold a bat after being hit by a pitch. He missed time earlier this year with a right wrist fracture. The 29-year-old will undergo further evaluation and imaging to determine the exact nature and severity of the issue. There should be an update on his status prior to Wednesday’s contest.

Top prospect Ronny Mauricio will get another opportunity at the hot corner while Mark Vientos (hamstring) continues his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Syracuse. Baty, who has been slumping at the dish since the start of June, will sit out his second straight contest after suffering a groin injury during Sunday’s series finale against the Rays. He’s presumably day-to-day for now.
