It’s extremely encouraging to see Horton excelling after missing most of last year with a lat strain. The 23-year-old righty holds a strong 1.23 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 12/7 K/BB ratio across 7 1/3 innings (two starts). He’ll continue ramping up at the Triple-A level and figures to be an option for Chicago’s starting rotation sometime around midseason.

With Jackson Jobe reaching the big leagues, in addition to both Andrew Painter and Bubba Chandler on the precipice of getting there, there’s an argument for Burns as the top pitching prospect left in the minors. The hard-throwing 22-year-old has looked unhittable in a pair of early-season starts at High-A, piling up 13 strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings of work. He’s the real deal.

Big Dumper dumped a ball over the fence again Saturday, giving him roundtrippers in back-to-back games and upping Raleigh’s total to four in 15 games. The 28-year-old backstop also doubled — his third of 2025 — and improved his slash to .214/.313/.482. Don’t be surprised if that slash is right around what he finishes at in 2025. That’s more compliment than insult.

J-Rod showed off his impressive speed with his three-bagger, and that’s already the second of the season. He’s hitting just .190 in the first 15 games of the campaign, but the first tenth of the season has been more encouraging than disappointing; especially when you consider how much he struggled to begin 2024.

Raley also drew a walk. It’s nice to see him drive the baseball Saturday, as he is still just slugging .289 on the young campaign. Raley has been hot-and-cold for the past two-plus seasons, and the hope is that this is the start of a hot run for the 30-year-old outfielder/infielder.

Woo allowed a walk and three straight hits to open the game. He didn’t allow another free pass in the contest, and gave up just three more knocks in another impressive contest for the 25-year-old. He threw 61-of-91 pitches for strikes, and he lowered his ERA to a nifty 2.75 over four starts. Woo sometimes gets forgotten about in the loaded Mariner rotation, but he shouldn’t. He’s scheduled to face the Blue Jays on Friday.

Rocker struggled to stay ahead of hitters, and threw 38-of-68 pitches for strikes before leaving. There wasn’t a ton of hard contact, but the 25-year-old’s poor command doomed him Saturday night. Rocker has alternated quality starts with shaky ones, which isn’t a huge surprise for a rookie hurler. Rocker will try and bounce back Friday, but that start is against the Dodgers. Fantasy managers shouldn’t take the chance if they don’t have to.

Tucker is already up to 18 RBI on the season with the pair of runs driven in. The 28-year-old has enjoyed his first — possibly only — season with the Cubs as seen in a slash of .328/.451/.657 over the first 17 games. He’s going to get a lot of money really soon.

This is a good statline no matter when you get in the game, but even more impressive when you consider he didn’t enter the game until the fifth inning. Amaya’s homer is the first of 2025, and he’s plated 11 over the first 17 games of the campaign.

Carson Kelly cannot be contained. The pair of homers brings his total up to four in 2025, and the three hits and pair of walks ups his slash to 417/.571/1.042 in the (very, very) limited sample. Kyren Paris could never. The regression is likely to be hard and swift, but Cubs’ fans have every right to enjoy what they’ve seen from Kelly in 2025.

So, the Dodgers aren’t perfect. Busch did major damage against his former organization, and he picked up four of the Cubs’ 21 hits against Los Angeles in a game that was 1-0 until the sixth. Busch has gotten off to a very solid start on the season with a pair of homers, nine RBI, a .300 average and an OPS of .926.

Impressive, even before you consider the quality of opponent. Brown was “only” able to get nine swings and misses over 84 pitches, but he was still able to accumulate the five punchouts while scattering five hits. It’s easily his best start of the year, and a reminder that Brown was once considered one of the better pitching prospects in baseball. He’ll try and build on this effort and continue to lower his 5.09 ERA against the Diamondbacks next weekend.

That one run came on a solo homer from Michael Busch. It’s the first time the 23-year-old has been able to go five innings, and he issued just two walks with three strikeouts. Sasaki had to wiggle out of a big jam in the third and was helped by a tremendous leaping grab by Andy Pages. An encouraging — if still at times frustrating — outing from the talented right-hander. He’s scheduled to face the Rangers next weekend.

This certainly could be playing a role in his recent struggles and usage patterns. McCalvy adds that Megill recently underwent an MRI, which didn’t reveal any structural damage. However, it’s a concerning revelation, especially after Megill was unable to put out a ninth-inning fire on Saturday night when he melted down in spectacular fashion, walking three batters and allowing three runs in an ugly blown save. There’s no indication that he’ll require a trip to the injured list, but it’s a development fantasy managers should monitor.

Amador gets the call to bolster Colorado’s struggling offense with both Brenton Doyle (quad) and Tyler Freeman (oblique) dealing with injuries. The 22-year-old top prospect, who sipped a quick cup of coffee last year when he got into 10 games for the Rockies, is hitting .273 (11-for-40) with two homers and three steals in 10 games this season at hitter-friendly Triple-A Albuquerque. There’s some intrigue here for fantasy managers in extremely deep mixed leagues, but it’s unclear whether he’s going to play enough right out of the gate to make a significant fantasy impact.

Carroll hit a double in the ninth to score a pair that had an exit velocity of 111.7 mph off his left-handed bat. The 24-year-old has been outstanding — outstanding probably undersells it — to open 2025 with a .322/.412/.695 slash. To say that he’s off to a better start to his campaign than 2024 is the understatement of understatements.

Whoops. Megill had to come in to try and clean up a jam created by Joel Payamps, but he did not. On the contrary, in fact. He issued three walks — one of them intentional — and simply didn’t have it while blowing his first save of 2025. Megill should remain the closer, but there are other talented options behind the 31-year-old if the struggles were to continue.

Chourio absolutely obliterated a Corbin Burnes’ offering for a solo blast that traveled an estimated 448 feet with an exit velocity of 110 mph. He still has yet to draw a walk and his on-base percentage is less than his batting average, but no one can complain about .313/.309/.657. Chourio has the talent to be as good as any fantasy player in the sport, and he’s played like it so far in 2025.

The Diamondbacks entered the ninth inning trailing 4-0, but they were able to get to Joel Payamps and Trevor Megill for five runs in the bottom of the frame to get the win. Gurriel has now driven in eight runs, but has scuffled to a slash of .154/.179/.308 in 2025. He’ll assuredly get that line up in the coming days/weeks.

Burnes gave up a pair of runs in the second inning, and then gave up a homer to Jackson Chourio in the sixth. The right-hander was better than his effort Sunday against the Nats (five innings, four runs), but he didn’t miss bats in either start with just five swing-and-misses generated during Saturday’s start. A frustrating beginning, but Burnes should be fine and obviously should be in fantasy lineups over the weekend against the Cubs.

Patrick gave up five hits and two walks, so he was a little fortunate to escape with a scoreless outing. Unfortunately he had to escape too early to qualify for a victory, but the Brewers blew a 4-0 lead in the ninth, anyway. The 26-year-old has allowed just one run in his three starts, but it’s hard to trust a player that doesn’t miss bats like Patrick as a fantasy option. He will look to keep up the good run — but work deeper — in a start over the weekend against the A’s.

No further details at this time. It’s a vague initial diagnosis after Suzuki went 0-for-2 and was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the fifth inning of Saturday’s contest at Dodger Stadium. The 30-year-old will presumably undergo further evaluation and testing over the remainder of the weekend to determine the severity of the injury. It’s possible he’ll wind up requiring a trip to the injured list, but that’s not a lock at the moment.

Dollander pitched well, and allowed just three hits. Two of those hits were solo homers by Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jason Heyward, but still a very strong second-career start for the 23-year-old. Unfortunately, the Rockies gave him a goose egg for support, so it’s his first ever loss. Dollander will face the Nationals in Colorado over the weekend.

Arias’s OPS is up nearly 300 points (.589 to .878) the last two days. He still hasn’t demonstrated much ability to hit for average, and he’s only a modest steal threat, so it wouldn’t seem to be time to pick him up in mixed leagues. Still, the Guardians will take what they can get after declining to sign a veteran stopgap for second base over the winter.

He gave up just one hit, a Vinnie Pasquantino solo shot in the fourth. Ortiz very nearly threw away his spot in the Guardians rotation with a 10.13 ERA and 14 walks allowed in 18 2/3 innings this spring, and he had an 8.44 ERA through his first two regular-season starts, so he definitely needed this. He’ll still need to do it a couple of more times before he’ll again be someone to consider in mixed leagues. He’s due to face his old teammates in Pittsburgh next time out.

This sure seems a lot more like the shaky Clase of 2023 than the one who posted a 0.61 ERA last year. He’s already given up more earned runs (six) in seven innings this year than he did in 74 1.3 innings (five) last season. He’s allowed at least three hits in four of his seven appearances. During the regular season last year, he never once gave up more than two hits in an appearance.

Trout kicked off the scoring with a two-run single against Astros rookie starter Ryan Gusto in the opening frame. He was also involved in a bizarre play in the second inning where a fan appeared to dislodge a ball from his glove when he reached out into the seats in foul territory down the right-field line. The 33-year-old fantasy stalwart is tied for the major-league lead with six round-trippers in 14 games and his plate skills have been extremely impressive so far. If he can stay remotely healthy, he’s going to deliver a true bounce-back season for fantasy purposes.

Paredes went deep for the second straight contest on Saturday night, taking Angels reliever Ryan Zeferjahn deep into the iconic Crawford Boxes. He was one of the few bright spots on a night where the Astros mustered just three hits combined and didn’t record one until Yordan Alvarez doubled with two outs in the sixth inning.
