The 32-year-old southpaw scattered two hits and four walks on the evening. The biggest threat against him came in the opening inning as Yandy Díaz worked a leadoff walk and Junior Caminero followed with a single. Rodón roared back though, striking out Curtis Mead, Christopher Morel and Danny Jansen in succession to end the threat and set the tone for the game. He got 12 whiffs on 102 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 29 percent. For the season, he now sits at 2-3 with a 4.34 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 37/16 K/BB ratio over 29 innings. He’ll look to replicate this brilliant outing when he does battle against the Guardians in Cleveland on Wednesday.

What a moment for Lindor. This was his first walk-off home as a member of the Mets and the 250th round-tripper of his career, moving him into sole possession of eighth place on the all-time shortstop list. The ball was crushed too, hit 108.8 mph, and traveled an estimated 401 feet to the upper deck in right field, as Citi Field exploded with excitement. While he’s had his traditional ‘cold’ April to start the season, he still has a .263/.322/.395 slash line with two homers and two steals apiece. Few players in the league are as productive and reliable as he is.

Peterson pitched much better than his line would indicate, and his line was still pretty good. The Cardinals benefited from some well placed bloops, ground balls, and wild pitch to scratch across their first two runs. Then, after the Mets rallied to tie this game up in the bottom of the fifth inning, Peterson came back out with 86 pitches as the top of the Cardinals lineup had turned over for the third time and coughed up the lead. Still, this was a fine start all things considered. Peterson drastically increased the usage of his four-seam fastball and the Cardinals seemed surprised by it with four swings-and-misses and 10 called strikes. His slider was nasty as well, especially against right-handed batters. This was also consecutive starts by Peterson without allowing a walk after he dished out eight free passes through his first two starts. He seems to be elevating his game and will be tested in a matchup against the Phillies next time out.

Donovan’s blast briefly tied the game before Francisco Lindor spoiled his clutch bomb. He wreaked havoc all night though, scoring three of the Cardinals’ four runs and driving in their other. Practically no one in the league has started their season as hot as Donovan has this season. He boasts a .982 OPS, has played all but one game, and already has three home runs. For reference, he didn’t hit his third home run last season until April 30th. He should be a fixture in all fantasy lineups while he’s hitting like this.

Mikolas cruised through the first four innings of this one with nothing more than smoke and mirrors, but the Mets were unable to do damage. Then, in the fifth, the floodgates opened when Mikolas allowed five consecutive hard-hit balls to start the innings before being pulled. He only forced five swings-and-misses in total and continues to look like someone that can’t get major league hitters out consistently. He’s scheduled to face the Brewers in his next start.

Stellar. It’s Abbott’s fourth career 10-strikeout game, and he was one off his high of 12 from a start against the Padres last July. He allowed only one hard-hit ball tonight, that being a lineout from Adley Rutschman. The homer he surrendered to Cedric Mullins was 93.3 mph off the bat and traveled 345 feet down the right field line. Abbott has excelled in both starts since returning from shoulder surgery, even though his velocity is down 1-1.5 mph from last year. Give much of the credit to his changeup, which he’s using more frequently and more effectively than ever before. In spite of his success, he still seems like a weak play next week at Coors Field.

Elly De La Cruz, Jeimer Candelario and Matt McLain all homered off him. Povich, now 0-2 with a 6.38 ERA, has a little more time to turn things around with Kyle Gibson still tuning up in the minors, but he’s not long for the majors at this rate. He’s completed five innings in only one of his four starts.

McLain’s fourth homer in 12 games this year traveled 414 feet to center. It was a three-true outcomes night for the second baseman, just as many have been this season; with one of everything tonight, he’s homered, struck out (13 times) or walked (seven times) in more than half of his 47 plate appearances.

Steer is supposed to be feeling better as he recovers from a shoulder ailment, but it’s not showing up in the numbers; he’s batting .111/.186/.204 with 18 strikeouts in 59 plate appearances, and his hard-hit rate is just 22%. He’s also yet to attempt a steal after going 25-for-28 in that department last year. Odds are that he’ll eventually get things turned around, but there’s little sign of it yet.

The Guardians were up 10-2 after 6 1/2 innings tonight, but the Pirates made it interesting in the end. Naylor’s extra-base hits were just his second and third of the year, and he doubled his RBI total from three to six. He’s been quite a disappointment offensively for the last year-plus, but he has progressed enough defensively to keep the Guardians satisfied with their backstop situation.

As might have been expected after the Pirates traded him in the offseason, Ortiz had a little something extra on his pitches tonight; his 96.8 mph average on his fastball topped his previous season high of 96.2. He bettered it just once in his 15 starts last year. He struck out eight, his second highest total in 38 career starts. The high of 10 was established in his previous start versus the Royals. Ortiz struggled all spring and had an 8.44 ERA in his first two regular-season starts, but maybe he’s figured a little something out now? Or maybe he’s just faced two of MLB’s coldest offenses in his last two starts. Let’s see how he fares against the Yankees next week before considering him in mixed leagues.

It might be time to end this and send Mlodzinski back to the pen, where he’s likely to prove more helpful to the Pirates’ cause. After giving up nine hits tonight, his ERA stands at 7.41 ERA through four starts. The stuff just isn’t quite there to get through a lineup a second or especially a third time.

Valdez’s first homer as a Pirate came off Jakob Junis. He’s batting .233/.327/.442 in 49 plate appearances as the replacement for Nick Gonzales on Pittsburgh’s roster. He’s due to cease being a fit once Spencer Horwitz is activated from the injured list, but given the Pirates’ offensive struggles, the team will have to keep him if he keeps hitting.

And then he undid most of that good by getting thrown out advancing to third base with the Pirates down three runs in the ninth. To be fair, Steven Kwan made a great play and throw to get him, but it was a situation in which he had to know for sure that he’d be safe in order to go. Reynolds upped his offensive line to .222/.297/.383 on the night. He also played right field for a second straight game after being limited to DH duties for a couple of weeks due to shoulder issues.

Bichette led off the home half of the first inning with a single off of Bryan Woo and then swiped his first base of the season. He then took third on a ground ball and scored the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Santander. He has done a nice job as a table-setter at the top of the Jays’ lineup this season, slashing .302/.344/.395 with 11 RBI and a stolen base, though he’s still searching for his first home run on the season.

Springer led off the second inning with a single off of Bryan Woo and came around to score the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Alan Roden. The right-hander struck out five on the night while allowing one base on balls. Rowdy Tellez jumped him for a first-pitch line drive homer with two outs in the second inning, but that would be the only run that the Mariners could muster against Francis in this one. The 28-year-old hurler got six swings and misses on 77 pitches on the night, posting a solid CSW of 31 percent. Now 2-2 on the season, he’ll look to keep the good times rolling as he totes a 3.13 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 20/8 K/BB ratio (23 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Astros in Houston.

It didn’t look like Kahnle would be needed in this one — especially after recording the final six outs on Thursday night — as the Tigers carried a 7-1 lead into the ninth inning. When Kenta Maeda gave up a run though and loaded the bases with one out, Tigers’ skipper A.J. Hinch went to his stopper to get him out of trouble. Kahnle issued a walk to Michael Massey to force in a run but bounced back to get Cavan Biggio on strikes and Drew Waters on a line drive to right field to end it. Is Story officially back? This was his first multi-home run game since May 19th, 2022 and gave him an .876 OPS on the season. The Red Sox steadily kept him hitting fifth for the first two weeks of the season, but have bumped him up to third and fourth in their last two games respectively. Story still struggles with his strikeout rate and will chase more than his share of pitches out of the strike zone. Yet, his power in this lineup and in that ballpark could produce some gaudy stats by year’s end.

While understanding it was against the White Sox, Dobbins was impressive here. He forced a swing-and-miss with all five of his pitches and had a tremendous approach against hitters from both sides of the plate. His four seam fastball tied everything together and he wasn’t afraid to challenge hitters with it. Then, against lefties, his splitter command was excellent low in the zone and he showed a curveball too. Against righties, he showed two distinct slider shapes and they combined to force six swings and misses. Again, it’s hard to get too excited after a start against the White Sox, but this repertoire and stuff look legit. If he remains in the rotation, his next start is scheduled to come against the Mariners at home.

Eric Wagaman’s homer in the sixth did the damage, as Wheeler continued his streak of allowing exactly one homer in every start this season. It’s just the second time in his career that Wheeler has struck out so many batters. His high is 14, which he established against the Rays four years ago. Because of the homers, Wheeler’s ERA sits at 3.73, but he has an exceptional 41/6 K/BB in 31 1/3 innings over five starts. He’ll face the Mets next.
