O’Neill was initially placed on the IL with a shoulder impingement on May 18th. He began a rehab assignment in early June but was pulled off the assignment on June 14th and received an injection in his AC joint. He started his rehab assignment with High-A Aberdeen on June 22, then played four games for Double-A Chesapeake June 24-28, and is now with Triple-A Norfolk. He should make another rehab appearance for Triple-A Norfolk, and then could be activated to rejoin the Orioles outfield. It’s unclear what his shoulder injury will do to his power, but O’Neill’s offensive upside is good enough that he should be added anywhere he was dropped. His return would likely push Ramon Laureano into a part-time role, unless the Orioles choose to play O’Neill mostly at designated hitter, which would push Coby Mayo or Ramon Urias to the bench.

That timetable doesn’t leave much time at all for Mateo to make it back this season. There’s a chance he’s ready to return in late August, but that would be a best-case scenario without any setbacks. The versatile 30-year-old suffered the injury last weekend while playing in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Norfolk.

Rodriguez remains without a clear timetable to make it back to Baltimore’s rotation, but the club has expressed optimism that he’ll pitch at some point this season. The 25-year-old righty, who is working his way back from a lat strain that cropped up during spring training, will be racing the clock to make it back since he’ll need a couple weeks of rehab starts to build up his pitch count and stamina before he’s activated.

Westburg was optimistic that he would return for Tuesday’s showdown in Texas, but the Orioles are apparently going to give him another day off. The 26-year-old infielder has been out of the lineup for four consecutive games, and seven of the last nine overall, as he continues to manage an ongoing left index finger issue. It’ll be veteran Ramón Urías taking over at third base again in his absence.

Anthony Seigler has no outfield experience, so the Brewers will be shorthanded there in dropping Cameron from the roster. Still, they obviously wanted some more offense, and they do have Blake Parker hopefully coming back before long. Cameron hit .195/.214/.293 with a 13/1 K/BB in 42 plate appearances.

Mike Trout still isn’t seeing any outfield time, so Soler, who missed two weeks with back inflammation, will have to contribute as a right fielder for now. He’s been quite the liability to this point, having hit .207/.280/.350 with about as many strikeouts (79) as total bases (83) in 265 plate appearances. LaMonte Wade Jr., who has been seeing most of the time in right field of late, will likely be more of a bench guy now.

Springer said after the game last night that he was fine, and the Blue Jays certainly didn’t want him sitting with a southpaw on the mound for the Yankees today.
