Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters afterwards that initial X-rays were inconclusive, which means Domínguez will undergo additional imaging, including a CT scan, prior to Friday’s series opener against the Orioles back in New York. He added that he was in a great deal of pain when he left the contest after being hit by a pitch. It sounds like there’s a chance he manages to avoid the injured list, but that’s hardly a lock. There should be a definitive update on his status later this week.

It’s an encouraging update after Domínguez underwent X-rays that came back negative for any fractures following a hit-by-pitch. He’ll undergo additional imaging prior to Friday’s series opener against the Orioles back in New York to ensure that he isn’t dealing with any hairline fractures or other issues. It sounds like there’s a chance he manages to avoid the injured list, but that’s hardly a lock. There should be a definitive update on his status later this week.

Domínguez was hit on the inside of his left elbow while batting left-handed on Wednesday. He was able to stay in the game and run the bases, but he was removed when the Yankees went back out into the field. We’ll wait to hear if there is any concern for a trip to the injured list.

Domínguez was officially called up on Monday afternoon, but Giancarlo Stanton (calf) has not yet been placed on the injured list. That clouds the immediate playing time for Domínguez, but the Yankees do face three righties in their series with the Rangers, which should give him enough short-term playing time. However, Anthony Volpe is reportedly set to rejoin the team on Thursday, and Jose Caballero has been heating up at the plate, so the Yankees may need to decide between Domínguez and Ryan McMahon when Volpe returns. That also assumes Stanton eventually goes on the injured list. There are a lot of moving pieces here.

It’s not yet known what the corresponding move will be for the Yankees, but it could be Giancarlo Stanton (calf) being placed on the injured list. It’s also worth noting that Luis Gil was already optioned to Triple-A after Sunday’s loss, so there’s an open spot on the roster. Dominguez has been solid in his 22 games in the minors in 2026 with an .875 OPS, three homers and eight stolen bases over 99 plate appearances to show for it. He forged a serviceable .718 OPS in the majors in 2025, and it’s worth noting that he’s not long removed from being considered one of the best hitting prospects in the sport. Dominguez still has a bright future, but if he’s being called up to cover for Stanton his time in the Bronx might be short-lived.

Domínguez wrapped up spring training on a high note, hitting .346 with four homers in 17 games. The 23-year-old former top prospect was shipped to the minors towards the end of camp to continue playing everyday instead of languishing on New York’s bench. The gap between Triple-A and the majors is wider than ever before and Domínguez will have to show something at the highest level before fantasy managers can trust him with a roster spot.

Is it too late for the Yankees to change their minds? Domínguez, who was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last week, took Cubs starter Edward Cabrera deep in the fourth inning for his fourth round-tripper of the spring as part of another multi-hit performance. The 23-year-old top prospect wraps spring training hitting .347 (17-for-48) over 17 games. It’ll likely take an injury or otherwise unexpected development for Domínguez to get another shot with the Yankees this season.

The Yankees had said all along that regardless of how he performed during the spring, it was likely that the Martian would be starting the year at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and that’s where he’ll head despite slashing .325/.378/.600 with three homers, 10 RBI and three stolen bases in 45 plate appearances during Grapefruit League play. He has all of the skills to be an impact fantasy contributor, but it’ll take an injury for him to get enough playing time with the Bombers to bring that to fruition.

Domínguez was caught stealing in the second, but that didn’t stop him from trying again later. He’s up to .371/.395/.686 in 38 plate appearances, and he’s stolen three bags in four tries. It’s just probably not going to matter unless someone gets hurt.

Dominguez was one of three Yankees to take Justin Verlander deep on Thursday, walloping a four-seamer some 431 feet. The Martian is up to a 1.010 OPS in spring ball with three homers and two steals, but doesn’t seem assured of major league playing time at this point with Randal Grichuk’s lefty-mashing skill set likely parking Dominguez in Triple A.

Dominguez is hitting .333/.344/.600 in 32 plate appearances, though his 10/1 K/BB isn’t very inspiring. It probably doesn’t matter at this point; unless an outfielder ahead of him gets hurt, Domínguez is almost surely Triple-A bound. Randal Grichuk makes a lot more sense as a fourth outfielder, since the Yankees would just need someone to face lefties on occasion.

Domínguez’s homer off Marco Raya in the first left his bat at 110.9 mph, which would have tied for his fourth-highest mark in a regular season game. He’s 5-for-12 with three extra-base hits this spring, but it sure seems like the Yankees haven’t left any room for him or Spencer Jones, who hit his third homer today, on the major league roster.

Domínguez enters a pivotal spring training without a clear avenue to regular playing time after New York re-signed veterans Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham earlier this offseason. The 23-year-old former top prospect could potentially wind up back at Triple-A to continue his development by playing everyday. These situations have a way of sorting themselves out but it’s clear that Domínguez will offer minimal fantasy appeal in a reduced role at the highest level. Here is the full lineup: Domínguez (LF), Aaron Judge (RF), Ryan McMahon (3B), Paul Goldschmidt (DH), Seth Brown (1B), Paul DeJong (SS), Spencer Jones (CF), Max Schuemann (2B) and Ali Sánchez (C).

“I would concede it’s in [Dominguez’s] best interest to be getting everyday reps,” Cashman said. “We’ll just have to wait and see how the spring shakes out, who’s standing, and then we’ll make the appropriate decisions when we have our meetings close to the end of camp.” With Trent Grishham and Cody Bellinger back, there’s no clear path to Dominguez playing every day with Giancarlo Stanton a lock to be the designated hitter. There’s still big-time upside in Dominguez’s profile, but it may not be on display much in 2026.

The Yankees also want Domínguez to play some winter ball after he saw only limited action in the second half of the season. Domínguez is definitely something of a question mark for the Yankees; his struggles on defense continued this year, and while he had a nice 50% hard-hit rate, he didn’t pull the ball enough and would up slugging just .388 to go along with a decent .257 average. His fantasy upside, though, remains pretty exciting, and the Yankees have outfield time opening up with both Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham becoming free agents.

Domínguez probably still would have disappointed Yankees fans as a full-time player this season, but he most likely would have justified his ADP if not for Trent Grisham stuffing him into a locker. He’s now 23-for-25 stealing bases to go along with his decent .258/.333/.391 line in 424 plate appearances. That he’s struggling to pull flyballs is a problem, but he has a 50% hard-hit rate. He just needs to point those hard-hit balls in better directions next season.

Domínguez’s last four hits have all driven in runs, but that’s over a span of two weeks now. He’s just not going to have much of an opportunity the rest of the way unless someone ahead of him gets hurt.

Paul Goldschmidt is batting .228/.273/.309 against righties this season, compared to .254/.350/.427 for Domínguez, but for better or worse, the Yankees would still rather use him at first and Cody Bellinger in left than Bellinger at first and Domínguez in left. Bellinger has started at first base just twice all season (July 5 &18).

Domínguez finds himself batting sixth during Sunday’s first-half finale with veteran Paul Goldschmidt moving up to the leadoff spot to face formidable Cubs southpaw Shota Imanaga. Ben Rice is on the bench for the second consecutive game against a left-hander. The other notable development here is that red-hot Cody Bellinger is batting second once again to close out the first half.

Domínguez was 0-for-9 in his previous two games, but he’s still been much more good than bad of late, going 19-for-48 with seven extra-base hits, nine runs scored and four steals in his last 11 games. He was thrown out stealing tonight for just the second time in 16 attempts this season.

Domínguez has been moved up to the top of New York’s batting order to face Mariners ace Logan Gilbert after hitting .392 (20-for-51) with two homers and four steals over his last 15 games. The 22-year-old former top prospect has legitimately been one of the hottest hitters in baseball of late and will aim to carry that momentum through next week’s All-Star break into the stretch run.

Domínguez takes a seat with Cody Bellinger in left field with the Mets rolling out a bullpen game on Sunday afternoon. It’ll be Paul Goldschmidt at first base over Ben Rice. The 22-year-old former top prospect has been sizzling-hot at the dish of late and should come off the bench at some point in the contest.

Trent Grisham is in the leadoff spot on Saturday afternoon, but Domínguez figures to continue getting chances atop New York’s lineup after going 2-for-4 with two homers and a stolen base out of the top spot during Friday’s contest at Citi Field. The 22-year-old former top prospect has legitimately been one of the hottest hitters in baseball recently, hitting .400 (12-for-30) with two homers, six RBI and two steals over his last seven games.

Working as the lead-off hitter for just the second time this season, Domínguez made his presence felt with a home run as the first batter of the game. That was somehow his first home run since all the way back on May 21st. He hit another in the fifth that again gave the Yankees a lead before their bullpen blew it later on. He also grounded out to make the final out in this game with Aaron Judge stranded on deck. Despite the lack of home run power to this point, he’s stolen 14 bases and has a .273 batting average with a .783 OPS. Those are solid marks to hang one’s hat on just past the halfway point of the season.

A hot streak would be huge for Domínguez, who, thanks in part to injuries to Trent Grisham and Austin Wells, has gotten to start three games in a row after being excluded from the starting lineup in four of the previous eight games. He’s 14-for-31 in his last seven contests, raising his OPS from .709 to .752.

The Yankees were probably better off with Giancarlo Stanton on the IL. Domínguez has started just three of the team’s last six games, none of them consecutively. Worse, two of those, including today, were against lefties, and the switch-hitter is batting just .194/.289/.306 against them, compared to .277/.360/.432 against righties. He had a big game Wednesday, going 4-for-5, in his only start against a righty all week; he sat against them both Tuesday and Friday. The Yankees had enough trouble finding at-bats for everyone before Stanton returned, and starting Domínguez, Paul Goldschmidt and Ben Rice all about half of the time isn’t doing anyone any good, except for maybe the Blue Jays and Rays.

This was a huge game for Domínguez. He reached base in three separate innings where the Yankees scored and notched three hard-hit balls in total. Playing time could get scarce between the Yankees corner outfield, first base, and designated hitter options with Giancarlo Stanton back in the fold, so this big game by Domínguez feels even better given the context.

For a time this spring, it looked like Domínguez might be the regular leadoff man, but he hadn’t hit higher than fifth in any of his previous 55 starts this season. Clearly, the Yankees think they need a little shakeup after getting shutout in back-to-back games, and Domínguez is batting a fine .269/.353/.438 against right-handed pitchers this season. The Yankees also have Paul Goldschmidt batting sixth, which is the lowest he’s hit to date. Ben Rice and Trent Grisham are out of the lineup versus Kyle Hendricks.

Dominguez reached on an infield single in the second inning but was left stranded at second base. He then singled in the fourth inning and rode home on Austin Wells’ three-run blast. The 22-year-old outfielder also poked a one-out single into center in the seventh inning but the Bombers couldn’t cash him in. With his three-hit attack, he’s now hitting .246/.340/.402 with six homers, 25 RBI and eight stolen bases on the season.
