With Bo Bichette nursing a knee injury, the Blue Jays needed some extra help up the middle. Jiménez will immediately enter the starting lineup at shortstop and bat ninth on Tuesday. The 24-year-old was hitting .271/.417/.333 in 15 games at Triple-A with 10 runs scored, 11 strikeouts, and nine walks. He remains off the fantasy radar in all leagues until we know if Bichette will avoid the IL.

It doesn’t sound like it’s a first for Scherzer as he deals with his thumb problem, and he expects to make his next start. Scherzer was pulled from Monday’s game against the Yankees after 71 pitches. He’d allowed two runs over five innings and struck out seven.

Springer said after the game last night that he was fine, and the Blue Jays certainly didn’t want him sitting with a southpaw on the mound for the Yankees today.

Bichette stepped on a loose baseball during batting practice on Monday and was scratched from the lineup with knee discomfort. Even though he remains sidelined today, the Blue Jays have maintained that he will not be sent for additional testing. However, they did call up Leo Jiménez to add extra depth in the infield, so it remains to be seen how long Bichette will actually be out for.

Neto returns to Los Angeles’ lineup for the first time in four contests after dealing with a lingering right shoulder issue after jamming it during last Tuesday’s game against the Red Sox. The 24-year-old shortstop was able to come off the bench in each of the last three contests, but he’s finally back on interim manager Ray Montgomery’s lineup card.

Rocchio is replacing the injured Gabriel Arias, but he was about due another shot anyway after hitting .252/.353/.484 with seven homers and seven steals in 41 games for Columbus. He’ll likely be the Guardians’ primary shortstop, possibly for the rest of the season.

Mateo came out of Sunday’s rehab game with Triple-A Norfolk with the issue and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be shut down for a couple days. There should be some clarity on his status at some point later this week. He’s been out since early June recovering from elbow inflammation.
