Flaherty opened with three scoreless frames today before giving up a solo homer to Elly De La Cruz in the fourth and a grand slam to Tyler Stephenson as part of a six-run fifth. Spencer Steer also took him deep in the inning. Coming into this one, Flaherty had allowed a total of two homers and six runs in his previous five starts combined. He also walked five today, topping his previous season high by two. The loss took his ERA from 3.41 to 4.03. He’ll try to shake it off before taking on the Rays next week.

If it wasn’t a rout already, McLain made it one by increasing the Reds’ lead from six runs to nine against John Brebbia in the eighth. He’s batting .229/.325/.439 with two homers and seven RBI in 11 games this month. It’s not great, but it’s a big improvement over his April and May.

Báez, who was out on the play, tried a swim move with his left shoulder and seemed to be in pain afterwards, but he came out for the fourth and finished the game, even as the Reds turned it into an 11-1 blowout. Odds are this will prove to be nothing, but it seemed worth a mention anyway. Báez went 0-for-3 with a walk in the contest.

Not terribly surprising that the Twins are going to want to get imaging done to determine the extent of the hamstring strain that the 26-year-old infielder suffered on Friday night. Lewis, who spends more time on the injured list than he does in the Twins’ lineup, could be heading for a return trip back there before the weekend is through.

The 27-year-old outfielder cracked the Reds’ Opening Day roster, but struggled in his time with the Reds, hitting just .083 (1-for-12) in his limited action. He wasn’t much better at Triple-A Louisville either, slashing .144/.336/.186 with zero homers, eight RBI and a 29/22 K/BB ratio over 133 plate appearances. There’s a decent chance he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra outfield depth for the Reds.

It’ll be the fourth straight game that Donovan has missed due to a sprained capsule in the joint of his left big toe. Cardinals’ manager Oli Marmol said that he’s okay playing shorthanded for the weekend if it means that the team can avoid a stint on the injured list for Donovan and that appears to be how they’re playing this. He’s still considered day-to-day.

The 30-year-old outfielder has been shelved since the end of May due to inflammation in his left shoulder. He has been limited to just light throwing drills since that time, so it sounds like once he is ready to resume hitting it’s going to take him a while to build back up and he’ll probably require a minor league rehab assignment as well.

The 40-year-old right-hander came out of Friday’s rehab outing feeling good and experienced only normal fatigue from the start after throwing 56 pitches. He’ll throw a side session on Sunday before rejoining the Bisons for another start on Wednesday. If all goes well with that one, he could then get clearance to return to the Blue Jays’ rotation.

He’ll repeat the process again next week with a pair of up-downs before he’s cleared to face live hitters for the first time. He’s still at least a month away from potentially being an option to help out the Brewers’ rotation.

The team could also decide to roll with Kumar on Sunday anyways and give Mahle a couple of extra days to allow the soreness to subside. Stay tuned.

That explains why he was moved to the 60-day injured list on Friday. That determination was made after a follow-up examination with Dr. Neal ElAttrache. It sounds like Rodriguez is going to be sidelined well into the second half of the season and can probably be dropped in any season-long leagues.
