The well-traveled 30-year-old will get his first opportunity with the Astros with Jacob Melton (ankle) landing on the injured list on Saturday. Hummel has spent the majority of the season at the Triple-A level where he has slashed .273/.382/.473 with two homers, nine RBI and a 13/11 K/BB ratio over 68 plate appearances between three organizations.

Nothing has changed in the prognosis for the 25-year-old hurler, this was done merely as a procedural move to clear a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for the arrival of Luis Guillorme and Cooper Hummel on Saturday. Arrighetti continues to progress in his recovery from a fractured thumb and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session next week.

Melton suffered the injury during Friday night’s contest against the Twins. No word yet on the severity of the sprain, but the 24-year-old outfielder is going to miss a couple of weeks at a minimum. Cooper Hummel was promoted from Triple-A Sugar Land to take his place on the Astros’ active roster.

The versatile 26-year-old has seen very limited action during his time with the Astros, going hitless in seven at-bats over four games. He’ll return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level. Luis Guillorme was promoted from Triple-A to take his place on the active roster on Saturday.

He’ll take a seat with left-hander Matthew Boyd getting the ball for the Cubs in this one. The 27-year-old is hitting just .214/.290/.321 with one homer, six RBI and a 24/8 K/BB ratio over 93 plate appearances since his return from the injured list. Jared Triolo will start in his place at first base and bat seventh for the Pirates on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Bieber was sent for a follow-up exam with Dr. Keith Meister who performed his Tommy John surgery after he experienced renewed soreness following a bullpen session in early June. Fortunately, the discomfort that he is dealing with is normal and not structural. The Guardians don’t have a plan yet for when he’ll resume throwing, but it’s certainly an encouraging development.

The encouraging news, at least as of now, is that Lewis hasn’t been placed on the injured list after exiting Friday’s affair with a left hamstring strain. There’s still plenty of time before first pitch though for a move to occur. Kody Clemens will start in his place at the hot corner and will bat eighth against Astros’ right-hander Hunter Brown on Saturday.

There have already been reports that the Astros plan to add Luis Guillorme to their roster on Saturday as well, so this could mean that both Isaac Paredes and Jacob Melton could be heading to the injured list. Stay tuned, as we should get confirmation on the official moves shortly.

It looks to be just a routine day off for the 25-year-old first baseman who has slashed an impressive .310/.344/.655 with three homers and seven RBI in seven games since returning from the injured list. Recent testing revealed that his fractured tibia hadn’t healed quite as well as anticipated, so the Mets will back off of his rehab to give him some more time to recover. He will be shut down from baseball activities for at least a couple of weeks before undergoing additional imaging to see how it has progressed. At this stage, there’s no clear timeline for when he may be able to rejoin the Mets.

When he landed on the injured list in early May, Winker was given an initial timeline of around 6-8 weeks with his right oblique strain. We’re almost at the six-week mark now, so he’s trending towards being just outside that initial estimation. Barring any setbacks, he should be able to rejoin the Mets before the All-Star break.

The 32-year-old hurler has been shelved since the beginning of June due to a right foot contusion that he suffered while covering first base during a game against the Angels. Since he hasn’t had a long layoff, he should only require a couple of tune-ups at the Triple-A level before he’s ready to return to the Red Sox’ bullpen.

The 24-year-old right-hander retired all three hitters that he faced in order, including a punchout, and needed just 14 pitches (nine strikes) to get the job done. He’ll probably need at least one additional outing there, and if he looks as sharp as he did on Friday night it seems likely that he’ll be cleared to join the Cubs’ bullpen.

Cowser was held out of Baltimore’s lineup on Friday evening following a collision with the center-field wall during Thursday’s game against the Tigers. The fact that he isn’t dealing with anything specific, based on comments from Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino, is an encouraging sign. He should be available off the bench this weekend and seems likely to avoid a trip to the injured list.

Morton has excelled in three out of four turns since rejoining the Orioles rotation, and while that doesn’t make him a great play in mixed leagues, it’s certainly a fun story. With tonight’s performance, he joined Steve Carlton, Roger Clemens, Rich Hill, Randy Johnson, Johnny Niggeling, Gaylord Perry, Nolan Ryan and Dazzy Vance as the only pitchers to have multiple 10-strikeout games after turning 41. Morton is slated to face the Rays next time out.

A big-time groundball pitcher with a poor 50/33 K/BB in 71 2/3 innings, Kochanowicz absolutely has to avoid the home run ball in order to be a useful starter. Alas, he surrendered two tonight, bringing his season total to 13. He dropped to 3-8 with a 5.53 ERA, and it’d really seem to be time for the Angels to try someone else at the back of their rotation. Since Caden Dana has struggled of late, Jake Eder is one possibility.

The Angels were shutout, so Moore had plenty of company tonight. Still, it made for a quiet debut for the 2024 first-round pick. Tellez got the Mariners on the board with a solo homer off Gavin Williams in the fourth inning. It’s the 11th roundtripper of the season for the veteran first baseman, and his double was just his fifth. Tellez certainly has the raw power to hit the ball over the fence, but it’s hard to trust him as a one-tool player playing in a home park that suppresses that tool.

Polanco turned on an offering from Kolby Allard to give the Mariners a 6-2 lead. It’s the 11th homer of the season, and it’s encouraging to see him drive the ball from the right side after struggling — and at times not playing — against southpaws in 2025. Polanco is now hitting .266/.312/.464 on the season with 33 RBI. The majority of that damage was done much earlier in the year, however, as he’s hit just two homers since the start of May.

Williams allowed six hits, and he walked three while striking out just one. He needed 89 pitches to get through those four frames, and to say he wasn’t efficient is quite the understatement. Castillo allowed just three hits, and two of those were solo homers in the third inning. That means he has allowed five homers over his last two starts, but for the rest of the contest the 32-year-old was excellent in a nice bounceback from his struggles against the Angels the last time out. Castillo now has a very solid 3.29 ERA over his 14 starts, and he’ll get a chance to keep up the good work against the Red Sox on Wednesday.
