Jones could potentially be cleared to start a throwing program afterwards. The dynamic 23-year-old righty has been completely shut down from throwing since the late stages of spring training recovering from a UCL sprain in his right elbow. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him to return to Pittsburgh’s rotation until sometime in June.

Lovullo had mentioned that Martinez was experiencing shoulder fatigue but has downplayed the issue as being anything serious. “I feel very strongly that today could be the day for him to come back.” With A.J. Puk sidelined by elbow discomfort, the Diamondbacks could certainly use Martinez back in action.

It’s a welcome development for fantasy managers that Leiter has rejoined the Rangers on their current road trip out in Sacramento. The club is working through the details regarding when he’ll rejoin the rotation, but it sounds like he’ll return early next week. The hard-throwing 25-year-old struck out four over 4 2/3 shutout innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock. He’s been on the shelf since early April dealing with a blister on his right middle finger.

Ahmed remains a certifiable defensive wizard, but he’s pretty much a non-factor from an offensive standpoint at this advanced stage of his career. The 35-year-old journeyman shortstop gets the call to the majors as an emergency stopgap for the Rangers with Corey Seager (hamstring) hitting the injured list.

MLB.com’s Kennedi Landry reports it’s expected to be a relatively short stint for Seager after an MRI on Wednesday revealed a mild hamstring strain. The 30-year-old shortstop suffered the injury during Tuesday’s showdown against the Athletics. He’s no stranger to physical issues at this stage of his career, but he’s remained a consistent 30-homer threat since arriving in Texas. It’ll be veteran defensive standout Nick Ahmed taking his spot on the roster, but we’re anticipating Josh Smith taking over at shortstop during his absence.

Eflin is making his way back from a low-grade lat strain and could potentially rejoin Baltimore’s rotation before the end of May. He’ll need to get through a couple bullpen sessions before he’s cleared for a minor league rehab assignment.

Monteverde went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last weekend. The 27-year-old southpaw doesn’t have the ability to elect free agency at this stage in his career and will remain with Miami as extra organizational depth.

Overton was with the Mets in spring training after spending last year in the Reds’ system recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 31-year-old righty hasn’t pitched in the majors since the 2023 season. He’s merely extra organizational depth at Triple-A Buffalo.

It’s a different look for the Angels as they try to shake things up and generate a spark. Ward hit his sixth home run of the season during Tuesday’s one-sided affair and will get a look in the cleanup spot after occupying the leadoff spot to open the year. It’s Jorge Soler moving up to the top of the order with Zach Neto batting second again on Wednesday evening.

Seager was removed from Tuesday’s showdown against the Athletics in Sacramento with right hamstring tightness. He’ll undergo additional imaging to determine the severity of the issue to determine how much time he’s going to miss. It certainly sounds like there’s a chance he winds up requiring a trip to the injured list. There should be some much-needed clarity on his status at some point prior to Wednesday night’s game.

The turnaround has to start somewhere. Perhaps a series in Sacramento helps. Burger led off the sixth inning with a solo homer off Osvaldo Bido for his third homer of the season and first since April 5. He also drew a walk in the contest. The 29-year-old slugger is batting .186/.230/.343 with the three homers and nine RBI across 74 plate appearances. Burger has always had a streaky profile, so hopefully Tuesday’s effort will get him going at the plate.
